I finally learned the meaning of the FDK acronym.

Post by tehCal »

FDK, as most of you are aware, is Gastown Firecar #3 -- a Volkswagen Type 1, or Beetle. Also known during WW2 as a Kraft durch Freude-Wagen, or KdF-Wagen. You see where I'm going with this?

The car's unofficial name refers to Nazi Germany's state-operated leisure organisation "Strength Through Joy". So in War Boy culture, it is misremembered (perhaps deliberately) as Freude durch Kraft, or "Joy By Force". Which certainly seems more appropriate in this context.

A high-up source confirmed this, and that "War Boy dyslexia" allows it to be read as "fucked", which is a pretty reasonable description of the car after its run-in with the War Rig!

Very good explanation indeed. But I think the better translation for "Freude" would be "happiness". For a regime that forces people to be happy.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

I just look at it and say "Where's the bloody radiator?"
"Go ahead and run. Run home and cry to mama! Me, I'm Through runnin'!"

Maybe at the same place as the radiator of the Nux car. Flat under the rear end.

Edit:
Isn't that a (small) radiator behind the engine right beneath the front shield?

if it's a Volkswagen, why is the engine in the front at all? And Volkswagen engines were air cooled, so no radiator.

It is highly modified, but it's definitely a Volkswagen Type 1.
