Mad Max 2 Ford Landau *DONE*

Post by Hetzer »

Hi everyone! Here's my current project, black Landau seen in opening chase of Mad Max 2. It's based on Aoshima Interceptor kit with loads of scratchbuild items, it still has some distance to finished deal but coming quite strong. At this point only items left to build are wheel arch extensions and second hub cap, other work left is some finishing touches before painting.

Here's rough start, here is seen also scratch built front bumper that later is replaced with resin item:

Rear:

And after some work. Rear lights are scratch build, bumper is found on Ebay:

As my plans is to make diorama, there's also need for a driver figure. This is a mix of Tamiya and Fujimi:

Things starting to look like something, side pipes are scratch build from start to collectors and rest is scavenged from other kit. Hub cap is actually a Tamiya Marder road wheel 8-)

Hood:

And here is latest test build. Skull is 1/35 resin soldier head, and here headlights are bit at uneven hight but that is easily corrected as grille halves are loose. Center of the grille is plastic sheet.

Thanks for looking,

Tomi

Driver's body is Tamiya, so it's bit shorter that those on Fujimi driver set (they are on odd laid back positions). I removed pedals as they are not too visible anyway, and had to slice bit off from drivers heels. There's also a bit of smoke and mirrors on the seat, only back rest (visible bit) is from original seat and rest is Tamiya seat so that figure sits well ;) If you can't see it, it's not there

Thank you! Actually figure was easiest part so far... This has really been fun project, I normally build WW2 armor but needed something else for a change and since I haven't build any car kits for over two decades this was very welcomed diversion. And also I could say that MM2 is easily my favorite movie of all time, so there 8-)

So, here's one wheel arch extension soldered, almost drove me nuts. But as this would be too fargile done with plastic, soldered brass wire was only real option here. Crude, but so it was in the real car too.
