HEAVY SPOILERS ! references to the old movies

Post by Helge/DFL »

HEAVY SPOILERS! Compare the connections between "the old movies" and "Fury Road". All these little details for us fans. I just "stole " this list for the other topic. So please fill in your spotted scenes/things.

Now I try to recall some of the references to the old movies:

The shotgun with the dud.

The music box.

The eyes popping out during a flashback.

How the bicker gets under the trailer wheels.

Furiosa's eye at the end (same as Max's eye in TRW)

Tanker roll.

Some particular shots with airgun arrows.

The car out of control connected to the tanker by a cable.

The crows ....

The old World-War-Two german pistol, that Bubba Zinetti already used and we saw also in Thunderdome

The crows ? I didnt remember that in the old ones.

The eye popping was taken straight from first movie.

In MM1 you can hear the crows. And it also has an quick close up of a crow in MM1

To ad some more to my "stolen" list:

Max shouting "That's my vehicle" (or something similar)

Pulling the driver up out of the car like with the cow car.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

I think he shouts "first you took all my stuff and now you took my car ?!!"

It's funny how he's really pissed about the car lol

When Furiosa and the War Boy blast the Buzzard car while hanging out the side of the War Rig cab (Mad Max 2)

The guy with the Chainsaw (thought of Thunderdome straight away)

When Nux hits the War Rig brakes to put the guy on the bonnet who is about to attack him under the front of the truck (Mad Max 2)

When Toast the Knowing sits there in the War Rig cab with the open cloth going through the shells (Mad Max 2)

The Mack truck in the final chase, painted black with the orange pin stripe - identical model (R600) to the truck in Mad Max 2

I'm quite sure not everything we've listed in this thread is intended as a reference, some are looser than others, but they all brought a connection to the other films for me. It just felt like Fury Road was connected in so many subtle ways to the original trilogy, and I'm sure I'm forgetting even more.

Yes, indeed. Forgot about these. But there are so many hidden in FR. Just try to remember them all after one screening :D

An other reference to a non MM movie:
The spiky-cars are probably a reference to "The cars that ate Paris". See my sig. :D
You don't see the drivers of the cars like in TCTAP. In both films, you know they're there but never see them. The picture is focused on the cars. Like they live there own life.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.

I cheated, I've seen it twice :) I picked up most of the references as they were happening first time through, but didn't remember all of them by the end.

Yes, I also thought this when we first saw those cars. Surprisingly I've never seen TCTAP, have always meant to, just one I've not gotten around to.

A couple more references:

The pistol hidden under the tanker, the pistol hidden under the dash of the War Rig (a fella, a quick fella, might have a weapon under there...)

When Furiosa and Max look across at each other in the opening chase - Max / Papagallo exchanging looks during the chase in Mad Max 2, "WTF have we just gotten ourselves into here..."

In MM1 TheGoose says "tried to scream with his face ripped of". In FR it actually happens. Immortan Joe's face got (partially) ripped of with the mask.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

When Toast and Splendid look out from the War Rig at the approaching war parties, like Max and the Gyro Captain in Mad Max 2. I was waiting for Toast to grab the long spyglass telescope from Splendid and swap her :D
