warner brothers had tried to get the project back on track to keep with a 2013 release. sadly it seems we won't likely see that as most recent reports I've seen say sometime in 2014. as of right now though we have no official conformation that I am aware of.

Well, WB just dated The Wachowski's 'Jupiter Ascending' for July 25, 2014. So this is how things currently stand for WB's tentpoles in early to mid 2014.

March 7 - All You Need Is Kill (Tom Cruise; dir. Doug Liman)
April 25 - Transcendence (Johnny Depp; dir. Wally Pfister)
May 16 - Gozilla (dir. Gareth Edwards)
July 25 - Jupiter Ascending (Channing Tatum; dir. Andy & Lana Wachoswki)

Assuming they wouldn't want to release tentpole movies within 3 weeks of each other, they will probably schedule a movie for release some time between early June and early July. Mad Max could very well be that movie, but there's the wild card of Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'. If that movie is a 2014 release, then it will almost certainly get a spot during the Summer as well.

All said, I think Fury Road will be released between early June and early July. That would mean it would go up against 'Jurassic Park 4' (June 13), Transformers 4 (June 27), and ' Maleficent' (July 2). It will be an IMAX 3D release, so they won't schedule it to face off against another IMAX 3D release in 'How To Train Your Dragon 2' which is set for June 20. So that basically leaves early June or early July. June 6 has 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and July 2 has 'Maleficent'. Fury Road would be good counter-programming for either.

Alternatively , they could release it in late March/early April where it would face off against 'Captain America 2'. If Fury Road is rated R, this would appear to be a better release date, particularly if 'Interstellar' is being released that Summer. Of course the R rated 'Prometheus' was released on June 8 and did reasonably well, so there's that too.

I believe Interstellar's release date is 7 Nov, 2014. Of course, that can definitely change between now and then.

I noticed that WB had moved Transcendence back a week from April 25 to April 18. With the announcement of the Mad Max game for April 30, perhaps they moved that movie so that they could release FR between it and Godzilla (May 16).

I also see that Method Studios, who's working on the VFX for FR, has the release date set for Feb 7, which makes no sense because WB is releasing the Lego movie on that day.

Game release is most likely a placeholder but if they release the game and film within the same week that would mean going up against The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which would kill Fury Road.

If they wanted they could go up against the next X-Men movie for the big Memorial Weekend release and the last X-Men film fell completely short of it's predecessors....but then it didn't have Hugh Jackman in a main role either. Another problem with that would be that Fury Road would be released with another WB movie....

Honestly WB has a big slate next year along with other studios so it's hard to predict for 100% certain where FR could be released and perform well.
