SPAM posts and SPAM blocker

Post by Peter Barton »

Just wanted to let you all know that the forum now has an automated SPAM blocker installed. When people register / post, it does a lookup against some known SPAM databases (like stopforumspam.com), and should block most spammers based on that.

Now, a few legitimate users, mostly older users, have also been caught out by this. This is primarily because some older users just don't have valid / current email addresses in their profiles. So if you're a legit user, and get blocked as a spammer when trying to post, please just double check the details in your profile first. I have NOT blocked anyone, but the automated system may catch you if it can't properly look you up. If you're details look legit and you are getting blocked, just PM me or let me know, and I will take a look.

There will also be the occasional SPAM registration that still gets through, as a few of you reported in the past week (thanks for the reports, it helps me remove these quicker). Those users were actually blocked from posting further after they were reported elsewhere, but they managed to get a few posts in here first, which I've now cleaned up. I think this is still a better system than me validating everyone manually (as I have been doing for the past year or more?), as mostly people who pass the spam check will be legit, which is betterthan waiting for me to verify first.

Checking.....Yes, it works. I got through :D
Good idea to install a spam blocker. There where a lot of commercial registrations and posts on the forum lately that had nothing to do with Mad Max or other movies related stuff.

"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.
