Aussie Mucle Cars

Post by lsttype »

Ive been watching allot of youtube lately, and Im so impressed with the variety of muscle cars that were built in Australia. Seems to me yall down under have the best of everything since lots of US cars were exported to you in the musclecar era. Anybody down there follow the Tourin Car Masters??? It is simply the coolest form of racing ive ever seen. Man those falcons, monaros, and chargers are awesome on the track mixing it up with mustangs, camaros and even an old Javelin! Is the car culture huge in Australia? If so I wanna move down there. Have a good one boys.

Ah no they werent sorry..... Australian cars are RH drive. Very few US cars were exported to Australia due to the fact they needed to be converted to RH drive.
All those LH drive cars you see here are personal imports.

The historic race car categories was only introduced a few yrs ago in order to relive the glory days of Group C racing where any type of car was eligible to race... 4cyclinders would mix it up with 6s and V8s.. It was very big in the 1970s and 80s. Then it all went professional...

i'd say it's on the decline as it's under pressure from the PC crowd who have bundled us with bad drivers and labeled all car enthusiasts as HOONS. Also speeding is heavily enforced (moreso than England) as the govt is addicted to the revenue from 'speed cameras'. Also our 'premier' motorsport series (v8supercars) is becoming more and more like nascar every year.

I actually think the muscle car culture here seems to be ok... most people however seem to ide their old classics away and never drive them.
The laws on modifications here are pretty strict so it just puts some people off, or they build shed queens... cars which cant be registered and get trailered everywhere!

A while ago we had a cruise to get support to build a full time motor sport facility.... we had over 650cars show up.
Our population is only 150000 people. Which to me is a pretty turn out!
(on average at local car shows only 100 or so cars actually enter, but you see at least 20more drive past who shouldve entered!

its easier to own a muscle car in the USA. 100 plus cars at local show is pretty good turn out! Our monthly summer cruise nights my Dads car club puts on get about 50 plus cars not to bad. The cruise nights are cool cuz it does not cost anything to be there, Our club is not really down on trying to win ten dollar tropies. So theres no classes or judging anyone can bring there old cars weather its work in progress or a show car/truck. Best of all you can leave burn out in street and get dinner and come back park and hang with friends! lol but thats here in US. Sounds like you have to go live in the outback and build what you want a drive around without anybody hasseling you. LOL

Well I really like the looks of the Aussie muscle cars. And they do mix it up with US cars in the Touring Car Masters which is the coolest thing ever. The V8 Supercars really expose our Nascar series for what it is..... phony ass cars that can only go in an oval. We dont use anything close to production cars in our nascar series. The cars are all the same platform with stickers on them to identify the different brands. What a joke. Its not race on Sunday, sell on Monday. All about the Driver/team and(big money). Is it true that ford is getting rid of the Falcon???

Sadly the Supercars here are going to turn into NASCAR type race cars VERY soon.
Next year they will have a common platform as well.
The cars only look like production cars as nothing inside them is actually a factory part.
Brakes, suspension, wheels, transmission, engines are all strictly controlled. (None of which are actual production parts).
Next year Nissan and Mercedes are entering the race which should bring a few more fans and dollars to the race.

Is it true that ford is getting rid of the Falcon???
2016 is the rumoured date and it will supposedly use a "global platform"... which is sad as it seems the Americans seem to love our falcon and keep asking why its not sold there? One wonders why our Falcon cant be the platform?

Man I for one would love to have the falcon sold in the US. You guys have the best 6 cylinder ever. The ford straight six! I like our V8s but a turbo alternative would be cool like you have. Unfortunatly here in the US 90% of our car are front wheel drive econo garbage so I dont see a rwd Aussie Falcon in our future. Not to mention those utes.

Yes I must admit when I came over to the US a few years ago I was looking forward to seeing the big 'yank tanks' and V8's. Unfortunately due to the govt 'cash for clunkers' program, it just looks like Australia now a days, jap cars everywhere... oh well, times change.
