MFP guard badge on the Black on Black

This has been bugging me for a while now,

What is written on the MFP guard badge on the pursuit special in Mad Max (1979)?

Is it 'Maintain Right' or 'Interceptor' or something else?



Just can't read it from stills of the film.

And why aren't the guard badges on the vehicle when Max is in pursuit of the bikers down Farm Road?

I read on a web site that they were magnetic, so they forgot to put them on sometimes. There are quite a few continuity errors with the first film, but considering the budget and therefore the lack of people to fill all the various roles in film making, they did a good job.

I am happy to be corrected thou...

Maintain Right on the yellow cars....
Interceptor on the black car... i do believe is correct

I prefer "Maintain Right" but if confirmation comes through that it was indeed "Interceptor" I'll get mine made up with "Interceptor", although I'll always refer to the black on black vehicle as a Pursuit Special. The novel, on page 46 reads:

As Max's eyes adjusted to the harsh glare he saw a lone car on chocks in the middle of the room. It was a police car. But only just.
It was a pursuit special. Black on black. The bonnet was off, revealing the chromed V-8 motor reflecting the light in blazing pinpoints.
Highly chromed exhausts swept along its sides, flaring up at the back where a complicated system of spoilers guaranteed that its rear-end would
stay road-bound at almost any speed.

Another interesting point is that the novel reads:

It'll deliver 400 true horses at the wheels

Sucks_Niro, I have just read the novel recently and also noted the different description of the vehicle. they were also armour plated in some way as well.

After reading the book, I am glad they made the changes to the screenplay as it makes more sense.

The novel has the Chief walking Max to the workshop.

Doesnt make sence that it would say Interceptor when its a Pursuit Special
Both the Holden and Ford PS are referred to by their names in the film by the MFP Radio Operator

There have been some really good replica car builders that used to post lots of proper and in the works info on the BOB but most have left now over the years. I belive it is actually Maintain right. But when i built my car i chose to put Mainforce patrol but only by mistake see by stoping and freeze framing my DVD player i could make out that the first letters was and M and i figured it just had to be Mainforce Patrol. Shoot they never say Maintaine right at all in the movie but you do hear MFP alot!
