I saw the film when i was a kid, and later read the book. Im not sure if the wheel arrangement on this truck works or if its just for looks.

The wheel assembaly does in fact work, since there is no suspension it rolls on 8 wheels at all times and if it hits an obstacle the wheels rotate. In the movie the wheel assembaly also acts as propulsion in water.Dean Jefferies built the landmaster using 1/4 inch steel plating and is powered by a Ford 390 cid engine.During a test run they drove it off a 20 foot embankment and it didn't even phase it.the landmaster was sold some years ago after sitting neglected and restored to it former glory.Google "LandMaster" and there is a website dedicated to it.

I grew up near Meteor Crater in Arizona where scenes were shot. A lot of great films done there, I think Star Man was the last. A friend had worked on set for Damnation Alley. It would have been a much better movie if Papard could keep the same accent throughout the film.

I seem to remember an old Marathon commercial that featured this vehicle that was titled "The Road Worrier".
