I messaged the seller asking for provenance or at least a screen grab. Let's see if he responds.

There's a picture of the Mad Max 2 CD cover in his listing (Mel with shotgun) - his gun doesn't even vaguely look like the same handle! Not to mention the fact that the ebay gun isn't even sawed off...

The movie gun was a fully firing weapon (when the XA windscreen it shot out, that's real bullets, from the real gun), and likely supplied by / returned to a controlled armourer. I doubt a sawn off was ever otherwise legal in this country. It's not likely a prop that would have fallen into the hands of some random guy - I would expect it is either destroyed, or if it is still around, there would be a strong line of evidence / proof as to where it came from.

I really hope there's more to this, like maybe, just maybe, the seller is confused and this gun was somewhere in the background of one of the movies.

Max's Sawed Off has to be one of the most famous cult guns in the world, it would fetch a small fortune I expect.

Although you can buy the Japanese replicas now that fire and everything.

I actually got a reply. He wrote, "I'll have to watch the movie again and look for it."

Draw your own conclusions.

wow, some one paid 200 bucks for it as well, which really puzzles me, we all know it was more than likely not from the movie, but what is even more amazing, is that it was probaly bought by someone who is not a die hard fan, and will probaly re-list it or re-sell it

The seller has to be a scammer. He's selling all kinds of "props" and most of his listings start with "A good friend of mine who worked in the movie industry for over 30 years told me that he got this prop...."

Riiiiiight.
