A few tidbits gleaned from Colin Gibson...

* There WAS a Buggy #10 -- the Hillman Minx, which was renamed Buzzard #5 because George Miller thought he wanted a bigger fleet of Buzzards. It was given a central flail and chain weapon that protruded through the sunroof, and was to be spiked, but the crew never got a storyboard sequence requiring it and so it quietly languished on the back of the Car Carrier in the film. Apparently, it had poor clutch response and visibility issues, so Colin was happy that it wasn't driven in the film.

* Most cars had stunt doubles, but the Ford Mainline Utility actually had two separate "characters " -- Polecat #1 and Polecat #2, "The Twins". The crew was lucky enough to find a pair of vehicles, but decided to maximise value by treating them a little differently in terms of sandblasting and pitching. This allowed them to be considered as separate vehicles to increase the overall numbers of the armada, and then be redressed to match if a stunt went awry and they needed a second take.

* "The Horseman", a Kawasaki Vulcan VN900, was a deleted bike that was built in Namibia. George Miller wanted a featured bike with a "death" theme. This was the only Bullet Farm bike, which was to play in the "harpoons and claws" sequence. It ended up not having a scene storyboarded, and as it was eventually clad in rib-bones as a fairing, it didn't make it back to Australia due to customs restrictions. Here's a photo:



* We misidentified the trucks; the truck cab seen in the armada isn't "Rosie/Tow The Line", but is actually "Prime Mover", the Ford Louisville. "Rosie" was a Mack Superliner Tow Truck that looked more like "Flintstone" (Tow Truck #1, the Mack R-685).

* The Skyline was originally to be destroyed in a "not-especially-funny gag" Colin wanted, whereby the only vehicle crushed by the rockfall in the canyon would be "the six-cylinder Japanese minnow amongst the V8s". The way the rockfall was shot, with the timing of the explosion and the arrival of the vehicles made this largely an offscreen gag.

Do you have any pics of Rosie, the Mack Superliner or the "Prime Mover?"

I could have swore the "Primer Mover" was a Mack R-600. It definitely looks like one.

Here's the Ford Louisville, referred to by Colin Gibson and Andrew Rickard as "The Prime Mover". It was apparently a crew/SFX vehicle that was used to pad out the armada onscreen.


Tow Truck #1 "Flintstone" is the Bullet Farm's Mack R-685 as seen in the final chase.

Tow Truck #2 "Rosie", also known as "Tow The Line", is a Mack Superliner (very similar to the R-685) which as far as I can tell isn't seen in the movie, although Colin said it was "kept to the deep background" of armada shots. I'm trying to find a photo of it; I only have a partial one that shows the rear towhook portion of it (which is red). It was apparently used to drag the Interceptor during some shots of the rollover at the start of the film.

Yeah I was told Rosie wasn't supposed to be on screen at all, it was a SFX rig made to drag the Interceptor on its roof although if Colin has pictures of it somewhere in the background of the armada that would be cool.

Does "The Prime Mover" appear again in the film? I love the shot of it with the Warboys swinging their blades in the air but I can't recall ever spotting it again.
