When I saw MMBT at the theatre when it came out with my then girlfriend, we walked out and I couldn't put my finger on what was missing, compared to the first two movies. Then she nailed it.
She said "You didn't hate anyone".
Toecutter's gang in MM and Humungus' scavengers in MM2/RW were BAD. Muderous, raping, torturing BAD. But Aunty Entity, was she bad or good? A bit of both and then neither. Master Blaster was kinda bad at the start, but then that all changed.
So, is there anyone in the new movie to hate?

I can't go into details but this would be a topic I look forward to discussing with you all in ten months' time in regards to FR.OzRedMonkey wrote:When I saw MMBT at the theatre when it came out with my then girlfriend, we walked out and I couldn't put my finger on what was missing, compared to the first two movies. I don't think Aunty was good or bad, just consumed with running Bartertown her way. Any decisions she made, good or bad, were in Bartertown's interests. That's why she even lets Max survive at the end. He earns her respect and he's no longer a threat to her.

The way to look at Thunderdome is to go back to the prologue of RW. Aunty and master were re-playing the global fight for control of fuel and it touched off another blaze...
It's not so much they were villainous, but that in the end they were pulling the same kinds of power plays that ruined the world in the first place. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss....the bad guys of MM and RW gave way to the same type of normal people we already have running our world now.

Re: Test audience screening 7/30
I wonder if it has anything to do with negative feedback from the trailer. Test screenings are smart. Even the best films can use a few tweeks, or catch a few editing mistakes that the critic might find. They probably set up Wednesday's screening after Comic Con on purpose to gauge people's reactions and expectations after the trailer.
That was very astute of your girlfriend, and summarizes my feelings too.She said "You didn't hate anyone".

Master Blaster was a bully, but not a real movie villain as you'd expect - just a bully vying for control of Barter Town. Bullies hardly justify a movie villain. We saw him push a few people around at Master's direction, but never kill or really hurt anyone. In the end, Max didn't kill Blaster because he wasn't a villain and he realized Auntie crossed/manipulated him. Master turned out to be a helpless victim in need of rescue. Hardly a villain there either...
I'd say that Aunty was definitely a likable villain, corrupt and greedy to the core and willing to manipulate and use the law to kill to advance her status - as they exist in all walks of real life. Her actions weren't in the best interest of Barter Town - because if they were she wouldn't care who runs Barter Town, as long as IT RUNS. Her feud with Master Blaster was bad for Barter Town but good for her. She was essentially raping Barter Town in her quest for power.
She was simply unconvincing in her role - mainly at the end when her character showed dis-believable and irreconcilable mercy toward Max - contributing to a ruining a sub-par film. Her actions were outside her personality box and inconsistent. But it was hard to hate her because she was like a real politician - and appeared to try to do good for the community. And her mercy at the end made her more likable which made the film less likable because you don't want to like the villain.
I don't see it that way. Also, as I recall, the same thing that brought Max to Barter Town was not resolved. He STILL didn't have his stuff back. With Barter Town the closest known place for gear, it's quite likely he'd end up right back in Barter Town and perhaps be a BIG threat to her.I don't think Aunty was good or bad, just consumed with running Bartertown her way. Any decisions she made, good or bad, were in Bartertown's interests. That's why she even lets Max survive at the end. He earns her respect and he's no longer a threat to her.

I know blackmocco said the general public might not go for the weird and wackiness in Fury Road but if they continue to cut trailers like that for it then it won't matter, people will show up regardless.
Also thank lord for an ignore list. Never thought I'd have to use it but good lord is that lead guy an annoying twat.

Okay.... you do know that really stupid shit that costs zero dollars can garner 10 million views, right? Psy's song Gangham Style - which is really really dumb, got 2 BILLION views. Justin Beber has 1,000,000,000 views on a single song. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mo ... ube_videosDGSimo wrote:Considering the positive reactions greatly outnumber the negative and was pretty unanimously voted one of the best trailers and panel stealers at Comic Con and is one of the top 25 trailers viewed on WB YouTube page with 7.5 million views in a week compared to some of those released months and years ago ahead of it, you'd think the overwhelming reaction to the trailer spurred the need to screen it but the truth was passes were being handed out prior to WB's panel on Saturday during the week. The trailer only helped fill the screening room to capacity.leadcounsel wrote:I wonder if it has anything to do with negative feedback from the trailer. They probably set up Wednesday's screening after Comic Con on purpose to gauge people's reactions and expectations after the trailer.

MM4 has cost somewhere around $100,000,000 to $150,000,000 to make! To make money they basically need every movie going aged adult in America to see it. Lol.
In comparison, 7.5 million views, which is basically all the interest it's generated for 20 years, is probably quite concerning and not nearly what they'd like to generate. If the studio can only get 7.5 million global views on what amounts to the opening weekend of this trailer, and Youtube is free (versus a $30 trip to the movies), that's an alarmingly low number in my view for such an overhyped and long anticipated film.
There is a LOT of criticism on the internet about this trailer and the direction it has taken.
Not sure if I'll be seeing it opening weekend, or waiting for the reviews to see if it's worth the time.
Re: Test audience screening 7/30
Yes, because this movie is not getting a worldwide release and only adults in America will have to see it. Forget about the merchendise and all kinds of rights sold left and right.leadcounsel wrote: MM4 has cost somewhere around $100,000,000 to $150,000,000 to make! do you have anything to support this claim or do you just pull numbers out of your ass at this point? In comparison, 7.5 million views, which is basically all the interest it's generated for 20 years
7.5 milion views In just 7 days. That's over 1 million views per day for a movie that's going to be released A YEAR FROM NOW. Le's also convieniently forget about all the press buzz and high praises from people whom watched the trailer and test screenings.is probably quite concerning and not nearly what they'd like to generate.
Total failure, right?
You can't use a trailer for a movie that's 9 months away to predict how much money it's going to make. There's 9 months to hype it up. Plus, if the first trailer is your reference point, it'd take half of people whom have watched this trailer to make most of its money back. Which doesn't even include other media like, TV or press you genius. Plus - Fury Road wasn't overhyped or long anticipated by anyone except a handful of fans, it was a big surprise at Comic Con and it took it by the storm from the looks of it.If the studio can only get 7.5 million global views on what amounts to the opening weekend of this trailer, and Youtube is free (versus a $30 trip to the movies), that's an alarmingly low number in my view for such an overhyped and long anticipated film.
Yeah, mostly from trolls on youtube and complete morons that won't want to see it because there's no Mel in it.There is a LOT of criticism on the internet about this trailer and the direction it has taken.
I'm tired of reading your ignorant posts that are clearly biased against Fury Road. It's the first time in over 10 years that I'll use the ignore button. Good riddance.

I'm so rooting for FURY ROAD, I don't think I have ever been so excited for a movie! There is nothing I have seen from FURY ROAD I don't like.
