If that would be the idea, I think that is not quite possible.
If the air would be so dry that cars won't rust any more, that would be as bad as hell for other car parts.
Everything of rubber would dry out in a very short time. Tires, hoses, gaskets etc. will be useless in no time.

Just my $0.02
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Looks like Gigahorse is definitely the main bad guy vehicle. Check out the flaming skull-wheel logo on the underside of the top Caddy.
Same thing as in on the speaker truck. Looks like we're dealing with a defined gang of freaks with different fractions within i.e. chrome cars, spike cars, etc.

As RW is a road movie, surely as Mad travels through the wasteland he is going to meet different gangs identified by their vehicles i.e spikes , chrome, skulls?

Maybe the chrome vehicles are due to radiation or acid rain?

I found these pics in a video a while back, but I recently found them in a youtube video. I thought I would post them. I really like the panel truck.

Looks a bit ridiculous but then again so was the lone wolf vehicle in Mad Max 2.

I would think in this time that the vehicles would be built solely for utilitarian, practical reasons.

I like the look of most of the vehicles. They should provide great action. I just hope the Mutants don't suffer from Stormtrooper Syndrome and have 95% of their bullets missing the targets. There seems to be a lot of firepower in this movie.
