Just my two cents worth. I think the excavator may be used to transfer people between vehicles. I had read earlier that there will be some novel way of transfering people between vehicles and at the time I had thought perhaps harpoons but maybe it is the excavator arm?

Forgot about that bit... but i dont think its the excavator.
And thinking about it... the tanker does have to swing arms with what appear to be pulleys????

Could be possible but I think the excavator bucket would be modded for this task , this is a fighting vehicle , I made that quoted comment a while back about what I saw on video about the ppl transferring from one car to another whilst in motion , I haven't seen a photo of this vehicle yet.
The winch looking things on the back of the tanker may be for hoisting crew members up onto the top deck , there doesn't seem to be any ladders or anything else

The first picture is not Fury Road but is Wasteland Weekend. I don't recall seeing the second picture anywhere.

If you go back further there are pics of the same vehicles before they were destroyed.

I just noticed something about that big PA-truck that I don't recall someone else noticed. (but when someone else did, I must have missed it).
I think all or part of those speakers are fake/non functional. At the back of the truck you can see 4 big round pipes sticking out that are closed with something. But at each pipe there is a chair. So I think those pipes are big drums and that whole construction is one big resonance box.
What do you all think about this?

That's exactly what I thought, too. One heck of a drum solo!

I predict a scene where Max and company have just gotten through a scuffle, and they think they are safe for a bit...then they hear this odd noise...boom...boom...boom...then this truck appears in the distance leading a giant fleet of attacking vehicles.
