Actually I agree with ddavidv, the clothes don't really look 70s at all (I was just thinking about some of the costumes of the extras, not the Bronze or the Bikies)
It has to be said that both MM1 and 2 are timeless classics!
Oh, and now I have the Road Warrior DVD (region 4) no extras but I'm happy. Can't wait to get Mad Max in DTS.
Oh and Uncle, I'm going to really scrutinise Thunderdome next time I see it so watch out!
MM1 is the most OUTDATED flick of the entire history! From the plot to the clothes, from the editing to the direction... EVERYTHING looks OLD as much as my grandfather !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still, I like it to death --- granted, it's my least fave MAD MAX movie and surely the "worst" out of the 3. Again, I like it, it's one of the greatest movies of all the times, but could have been better.
dude, i think your dead wrong, yeah MAX 1 is outdated in a couple of the extras clothing. but everything else you say is incorrect.
do you really think every director, movie maker and critic in the world would refer to MAD MAX as being so damn good, if it wasn't. in just about every review i have of a movie with car chases in it, or savage violence, there is a reference to MAD MAX in it , not ROAD WARRIOR mind you but the first one.
and it's car chases , in particular the NIGHTRIDERS are imitated still today.
i have so much more to say about this perfect movie, but i'll wait till you pick more of it to throw more in...

Dude, how can you say this? You can't honestly call yourself a Mad Max fan now.
How is the plot, editing and direction outdated? Mate, I have seen a lot of 70s and 80s flicks and you can tell which ones stand out. I hadn't seen the original Mad Max for years until I saw it again in digital and widescreen and I swear all the action scenes, plot, editing, direction, camerawork, score and acting is on a par to the movies today and even betters them.
I don't see how you can take it as "old" when a lot of those cars and clothes are still used today!
Mad Max the worst of the three? It'd have to be the best of the three!
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the first one - surely it's the most "realistic" and bleak entry, but *NO WAY* it's better than RW and THUNDERDOME. Road Warrior created a new brand world - never seen before - and Thunderdome expanded it to the maximum level in terms of creativity. MM1 is a very good movie, surely an '70ies classic, but it COULD have been much *MORE* better. There is no climax, first of all. Max's revenge is pretty uneventful and too much brief, in my humble opinion. Yeah, Thunderdome chase scene was a little bit brief, but you should consider it as a natural appendix of Underground's scaramouche and Bartertown's consequencial annihilation and you'd buy one huge action set-piece with excellent stunts and a lot of visceral thrill in it.
Then, I love the middle section, showing Max with his family --- on the other side, for non-MM fans the section is uninspired and sometimes BORING. It's not like the middle section of Thunderdome, full of ideas, landscape, atmosphere and story, if you know what I mean.
What I'm tryin' to say is: MAD MAX is GREATER only if you emotionally connect it to the rest of the saga, because the movie showed the M.F.P Police and Max's life before he would have become the Road Warrior or the Raggedy Man. For casual viewers the movie didn't stand the test of time, and it pales in comparison with the following chapters. Still, I love it.
Oh and od course, the LAST V-8 !!!!!!!!!!!!! The greatest car of all the times. Period. But I HAVE to say i'm a MAX ROCKATANSKY fan, in the sense I'm truly fan of the lead character figure --- his story, his attitude, his costume movie by movie... Maybe, that's why I'm a Thunderdome fan, most of all. Max has a lot to do in Thunderdome, the movie is really Max-driven, if you know what I mean. In the chase scene, for example, Max is more dinamic than in Road Warrior, and I can connect to him in a greater way.
