How much rust is TOO much?

While I haven't had the pleasure of removing the heater core on an XB I have done an XC ... it involves the removal of the glove box and some of the dash surround. The heater core itself seems to be enclosed in the heater / blower unit ... I have one under the house so I'll have a good look tonight.

I just reco'd the heater / demister on my HQSS ... complete disassembly and replacement of all sponge seals that had virtually disintergrated ... and it was simple enough though far from 'fun'.

I also have a ZH Fairlane for parts that has airconitioning and a different heater/blower unit to the XC ... if that has a servicable heater core you're welcome to it ... I have to pull out the rest of the dash anyway ... let me know.

Just this morning I dropped the SS in to the panel beater to have rust removed ... pop both screens, repair and spray plus the bottom of the n/s guard, strip and dip one door, repair, respray and repair/spray both doglegs ... around $2500 Argggggggggggh!

I've done the sums ... a 72 HQSS that owes me $14700 is just plain crazy ... if I found the right buyer it might just make $10k ... you wouldn't want to be doing this for a living!

Don't worry about the postage on the magazine ... as you can see from the above I'm either an excentric millionaire or barking mad ... the smart money is on the latter. Maybe I'll need something from the good 'ol USofA at some later stage.

Mitch,

For the short term I would go with a 4 brl 2v manifold (Australian only sorry) and a Holly and keep the 302 heads (raise your compression about 1.5 - 2 points).

Just my 2c worth.

I had a look at the XC heater/blower and you'll have to disassemble the unit to access the core. As I said before I have just done this on my HQ ... although the HQ heater core can be removed insitu if required ... and the XC unit appears to be held together by the same type of clips.

I also checked the heater/blower on my Fairlane and the core appears to be the same. I am not going to use the air con from this car so if you want a heater core it's yours for the asking.
