I was really hoping for March 1st new trailer, given it aligns with Dune 2 worldwide release. But WB decided to put out a trailer for Dune 2 instead. Understandably, because that film is highly praised so they're riding that wave now.

Yeah, but why did they release that first trailer in the very first place? It was a 360 grades misstep and tarnished the hype surrounding the movie. They totally ruined any anticipation, and generated such a bad promotion for the movie. Such a silly move.

I'm betting they had no idea there was going to be that cold reception, and that they liked the CGI because it's Marvel/DC like.

At the risk of being provocative: is the commercial success of Furiosa really that crucial? Apart for Warner Bros and George Miller? Now it mattered for Fury Road (because of Furiosa and The Wasteland coming to fruition). Hear me out, of course I don't want the film to flop, but there is no indication that Miller is intending to make anything related to Mad Max after The Wasteland as a TV series. Which is probably for the better if he has no more story to tell. Plus, he's no spring chicken so he might want to focus on other unrelated projects or smell the roses...

You're right. For me personally it's also secondary how successful it will become at the box office. There will be a huge backlash anyway, even if it turns out to be very good, only because we have a female protagonist. I am sort of relieved after the positive reactions from the testscreening and now I'm beginning to relax...I expect the film to premiere at the filmfestival in Cannes, beginning May 14th. Two full months, so let's hope there's enough time left to polish the damn CGI...At the risk of being provocative: is the commercial success of Furiosa really that crucial? It's not just about the money, it's about the film being the best.
We all would not be happy if the Mad Max saga ended up like the Star Wars saga did.

This exactly. Mad Max is George Miller's baby, he's always been very protective of it - hence 2 games, not a lot of merch, no spin-offs, he takes his time writing those movies, you get the gist.
It would be very un-Miller-like to throw this franchise to the wolves.

Aboriginal model Charlee Fraser is playing Furiosa's mother Mary Jabassa.
https://instyleaustralia.com.au/the-feb ... interview/So Fraser moved to Byron, took up martial arts, volunteered at a farm and started learning Japanese at a local community college. It was then that her agent called about an audition for George Miller’s long-awaited Mad Max prequel, Furiosa. She’d been approached before about moving into acting but it hadn’t felt right. “Then I was like, I actually have space to explore this,” she says of why she accepted the offer. “You know, I’m out here trying new things, getting to know myself. So I was like, I've got nothing to lose.” So she hired an acting coach for her audition monologue and after a subsequent Zoom call with Miller himself, she landed the role as Furiosa’s mother, Mary Jabassa. “I actually get so emotional when I talk about her,” Fraser says earnestly of the character. “She’s a warrior, she’s a leader of her community and she’s a mother. There’s just so much power in that trilogy that she holds. And I had such a beautiful journey getting to know all those parts of her and finding the warrior, mother and the leader in myself.”

I've been wondering how they are going to portray this. George is very much a show don't tell and even then a lot is left for the audience to piece together. Example at the start of the Road Warrior when Max looks at the dying marauder with zero expression. He waits a few seconds and then goes back to looking in the truck. It's such a powerful scene that tells a whole story in itself about what's happened to the cop few knew from the first film.Taipan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 6:34 am I was really surprised they did not show Immortan's treatment of Furiosa. It was quite pivotal in understanding why she hates him, but it's sort of 'implied' now from what I understand. In fact, I believe including all that to already a very violent and ruthless picture would push it into X-rated territory. Maybe it's a good thing they left it out, still it's a test version of the film, who knows how they decide to edit it.
That first trailer was a major misstep but people have faith in George. Any other director would have been ripped apart, he's getting the benefit of the doubt and a polished trailer will really pull people back in. Dune part 2 has also helped bring people back to cinemas so it's got a good chance.
Does it need to do well? No because this is most likely the last Mad Max film to be in the cinema but it would be nice if it didn't join all the other underperforming films the last few years.
