To me though, if Max was getting something "Special", it would have a name higher than Pursuit, which means to chase or follow closely. Interceptor means to overtake, head off, stop. But, I guess Pursuit Special sounds cooler than Interceptor Special. Interceptor Custom sounds better because the BoB was built from a piece from here and there and is a higher rank than Pursuit or even Pursuit Special, befitting their top driver with the biggest threat collection.

Pursuit - March Hare (older car being phased out), Big Bopper (newer standard car)

Pursuit Special - Stolen Holden (older trial prototype for Interceptor, one off, anomally)

Interceptor - Maxs' Yellow XBGT (newest standard addition)

"Interceptor Special" or "Interceptor Custom" - (BoB absolutely one-of-a-kind, last of the V-8's)

...just my two Ruples.

Hang about - March Hare's car had 'interceptor' on it - same as Max's.. only Big Bopper had 'Pursuit' on it.

I think you're right though - Pursuit cars are for keeping a suspect in sight and on his toes and an Interceptor perhaps could be a faster vehicle designed to head off a suspect. Perhaps March Hare's XB had been dispatched to stop the Nightrider but the old car just started to give out, allowing Big Bopper to pull ahead. Or maybe, as they had "been on him ever since" and their Interceptor was only tuned to do short bursts of very high speed (like Max's seems to), the engine began to blow its seals (which would be a perfect excuse if the car in question was actually a beat up taxi belching smoke, which it was). Who knows.

(Good use of bold, that.)

Isn't one of the backplates on the blower smooth while the other one has lettering?

A co-worker and I have thought of building a 4x4 tubular caged vehicle with aluminum bottom plating and sides with fiberglass fenders, heavy 10 oz. canvas top with 1/4" plex side windows. Motorvation would be something like a 351C, 360, 440 or 460. It would be light and fast, but still able to go off-road. We'd have to put the bumper sticker upside down on the windshield that says: "If you can read this, turn me over" or "If you can't dodge it, ram it!"

The two different would've been set up differently so that when camera shots were needed from the inside of the car shooting outwards, the "fake" car wouldve been used for those shots? The dickie seat for "dog" would not have been installed and quite possibly the real shelf would not be as far forward as in the "real" car so the cameraman could have room to move?

And another Hollywood "smoke and mirrors" as javascript:openWin('pop_up_profile.asp?profile=919','profile','toolbar=0,location=0,status=0,menubar=0,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=475,height=340') puts it, is that supposedly in the Terminator 2 movie where John Conner is being chased on his trailbike by the T2 in the TowTruck, that whole scene was reversed (ie: flipped). The real driver of the truck was actually hidden behind underneath the "real" drivers seat and looked out through maybe one of the air vents?. The actor then sat in the passenger seat of the truck which had a fake steering wheel set up. ALL his police badges were made in the reverse sense and the whole take was then reversed so it looked normal! (Obvisouly im talking about from when the roof of the truck is ripped off from the overpass collision).

I not wading into this one but take into consideration that the scene where the Interceptor's front end is smashed is also reversed or flipped.

Looking at those pics...I can't help marvel at how similar the Landau is to the dirty XR7 Cougar from Tarrintino's "Dusk Till Dawn"!!!...Just slap a few side-draughts on the bonnet..and pipe's out the side and you've got a Yankie cousin of the Landau...with the same engine/driveline....and about half the weight!!!...just a thought!
