I'm referring to anyone who quickly dismisses a statement or news source they disagree with as "post truth" or "fake". Hillary Clinton name dropping Alex Jones at campaign rallies didn't help her. Most people knew nothing about that crazy asshole before. It only helped Alex Jones get more YouTube hits and increased ad revenue while making her look more like a paranoid fascist. If he or Drudge or anyone else actually scares you and you want them silenced, maybe China is preferable to the US. So ask yourself this, do opinions scare you? Should they be regulated by the government? What happens when someone declares your own thoughts and opinions too scary?

This election was about calling the liberal bluff and you lost. Deal with it. The Republicans could have nominated a ham sandwich and they still would have won.

From where I am (across a large ocean) it appears that most Republicans have lost, because the country is going to be led by someone who hates the working class and will actively persecute them.

But the thing is, although post-truth is going in the Oxford Dictionary this year, it's nothing new. For centuries we've supposedly known better than to listen to gossip, appreciated people have an agenda, and understood that printing words doesn't make them true, yet here we are. Post-truth politics existed the second politics existed.

While this is true, there used to be a law in the US which prohibited news stations from knowingly giving out false information, and there were penalties for false reporting. Not only is that no longer the case, but there are now entertainment channels pretending to be news channels.

If that's your definition of lost I'd love to know what is your definition of a win. The Republicans now have total control of the federal government. The House, Senate, Whitehouse, and President Trump gets to pick at least 1 new Supreme Court justice. Explain to me if that's a loss then how did the Democrats come out in this election? Also, explain to the thousands of people at Ford and Carrier who would have seen their jobs go to Mexico if Trump hadn't stepped in. Is that "active persecution"? I'm waiting to see what he can do after he's sworn into office. Otherwise can I borrow your time machine? You seem to have some sort of incite about the future of the country. Or more likely you are repeating the same horseshit coming out of the mouths of everyone else who is in denial about this election.

Oh, you mean like how Rolling Stone magazine was recently found guilty for falsely reporting about a gang rape at the University of Virginia and are now being forced to pay $3 million in damages to the school administration? The very same magazine that Obama just did an interview complaining about "fake news" while praising Rolling Stone. You libs are so damn clueless it's almost laughable. How about every single news organization falsely claiming the election was over and declared Hillary the winner barely out of the primaries?
Yeah, Comedy Central and The Daily Show sure have gone down the toilet in the last few years and are basically unwatchable. They hit their peak in the first few years of the Bush administration, then sometime after Obama became president they hired terrible and lazy writers. Go back and you can see this dead look in Jon Stewart's eyes long before he quit. Realization hit him like a baseball bat to the face.

In all fairness, as parties, both sides lost terribly as this was an anti-establishment election. The Republican party hates Trump but may need him. The party fractured during the campaign and those highest up the food chain demonstrated terrible leadership with their flip-flopping. Trump is going to be battling his own party as much as the opposition. The Democrats completely misjudged the demographics they needed to win and destroyed the trust of their own voters by pushing through the candidate they wanted.

Trump's leadership isn't looking too hot. A string of broken promises before he's even in office. He's done nothing for Ford, just claimed to have saved jobs. What he's done for Carrier is purely in the interest of the company, not the workers. But then Hillary would also be backing out of every promise she made now too. I guess we'll have to see how Trump operates. This thread will certainly be worth reflecting on in six months time. Personally, I think he'll be a disaster for anybody other than the already privileged - the point clearly being made by Turbofurball.

How someone could not know about the Young Turks is beyond me. Regardless of their politics, their growth has to be respected.

The reporting and satire has degenerated into mud slinging on both sides. I don't see how anybody can mock the liberal media when the conservative media has become such a parody of itself.

What I find sad to see is when it all boils down to "you people" & "you're full of shit" with all these stones flying from glass houses. We're all in this together and completely distracted from the fact there's one law for the powerful and another for us. While we've been busy arguing over Bexit in the UK, our government has enacted a law logging our internet activity and making it legal for a whole host of agencies to access it - members of parliament are excluded of course. Meanwhile they've also passed law to start blocking internet content, starting with porn but opening the door to pretty much anything. That's a decimation of rights, liberty, and privacy happening with a near-centrist party with no anti-establishment "mad man" at the helm.
