and the whole motorcycle gang guys seemes to be flirting with the late 70s punk scene. which means they probably listened to Iggy Pop and the Ramones. when they weren't reading Shakespeare of course. ;)

Flirting... wha??? Only music I recall anyone flirting with was Nightrider. Quoted AC/DC and paraphrased Bruce Springsteen. That's it. Nothing resembling Johnny Rotten or Joey Ramone. Maybe Iggy Pop, but that would be a stretch. So if these fellas had music at their parties I would imagine that certainly AC/DC and maybe Motorhead or something along those lines. I could actually imagine the guys from those 2 bands in the Toecutter's gang. They're not punks - they're trash scoot jockeys. Bikers. That music fits their lifestyle.

But on the subject of the Nightrider, I've often wondered about his place in the gang. Clearly Toecutter was the leader in the absence of NR. But what was NR's rank? TC's #2? The gang leader? Or was he just revered after his anti-heroic murder of a Bronze, and subsequent martyrdom? Everyone in the gang seems oh-so-enamored with NR, from a monkey like Johnny the Boy to the "sophisticated" (i.e., gay) Bubba Zanetti. I tend to think that TC was still the leader when NR was there too, as evidenced in NR's ramblings in the beginning of MM: "The Toecutter - HE knows who I am!" Was that NR searching for confirmation/recognition from TC? His expression seemed to say that he was trying to impress the TC by his actions. (my apologies if this topic has been discussed, debated and decided already) He possibly could have been trying to indicate to TC that, in fact, he himself should be (or remain?) the gang leader because he had the big balls (ha - another AC/DC reference). This idea seems a bit undermined by the fact that with 2 Bronzes killed in the film, perhaps killing one was a right of passage, and NR was just coming into his own. But that would kinda put him on the level of JTB, who was little more than a junkie dingbat monkey, while NR was a full-on "terminal psychotic."

Eh. Ideas?

sorry DREWSKI, (again) but NIGHTRIDER was the former leader, before his death, TOECUTTER was just 2nd in command, and probably a really good mate, which explains the refence in Toe in the opening chase, i think he was just massievly respected, probably as evil and ruthless as the NIGHTRIDER, and one of the original members.

i don't have any proof, except reviews and quotes, some from MILLER himself, claiming that NIGHTRIDER was the ex leader.

While were on the subject of knobs on their HARLEY's. on the way to work this morning, i spotted a big leather clad guy with the bandana over his mouth and flames daubed on his helmet, pushing this big f**kin Hog up the road with lite wisps of smoke coming out of it, i immediately thought, f**k as soon as i get to work, i gotta jump on the FORUM and report this one Image

Why sorry Rock? I wondered which was which is all. I hadn't heard what folks here were saying on the issue. But if Miller says it is, than it is!

I can see though that the US iron vs. Jap bike chat is a bit different in the Lucky Country than up here. Those comments on the HD's don't go over all that well in the midwest US. Blue collar roots all around, and Milwaukee (home of HD) right up the road a bit. The pretty boys with the expensive shirts and the dyed hair on their rice rockets are the jokers here. Fast yes, but no style... I don't have a bike myself (a top down, doors off, foldable windshield Jeep gets enough wind in my hair!) but if I were to buy a bike, it would be a V-Rod, hands down.

That won't happen anytime soon tho, cuz the next garagemate my TJ gets is going to have the intials XB in it's name, heh heh. Check the close up to see where the motorcylce theme continues on my Jeep... :-) (sorry sorry for jacking the thread!!! few too many pints tonight is all...)

to the "sophisticated" (i.e., gay) Bubba Zanetti

-----------

Bubba's gay?? Image I didn't see him riding around with a blond b/f on the back of his bike. He struck me as a very hetro sotra dude. Yeah, Bubba happened to be neat and careful with his appearance but that's just part of his personality. I don't think it that makes gay.

BUBBA is not f**kin Gay. (i didn't see that one). just cause his appearance and manner are neat, does not mean Gay.

f**k, i shave every day, does that make me gay. I was also top of my class in ENGLISH too, well sh*t i must be a visitor to vegimite valley.

i actually find that type way more scarier than a scruffy badarse. Check out HANNIBAL LECTOR hair slicked tight back, neat even in prison clothes, or say MICKEY KNOX in NATURAL BORN KILLERS, in or out of prison, completely clean shaven, and hair neatly tied back - chilling.

"...a visitor to vegimite valley" Image Damn - that's a good one. Lots of terms for that in the US (i.e., rider of the hershey highway, etc.) but I like your term better.

Anyway MILLER certainly has no problem with the alternative lifestyle (most obvious with Wez, although to be honest, since I was a youngster when I first saw RW, I always thought the boy on Wez's bike was his brother.) Sorry, but living on the north side of Chicago as long as I have, you sort of develop a bit of the gaydar. I'm not saying it's 100%, but I just had a feeling about BZ. The haircut, the dress, eye makeup, other things about his appearance/mannerisms make me think so. Am I going to argue it and try to convince anyone? Nahhh. It's not that big of a deal. On the other hand, I don't see anyone convincing me otherwise. BZ always reminded me of a slighter version of Rob Halford.

Hey Rock, I don't get what English studies has to do with sexual preference.

a pissy little SKINHEAD gang i was in here in HOBART in the early 90's, used to paint our Thumbnails black. it was a gang membership thingy, you know 'oh he must be from the blah blah's cause they paint their thumbs black" another gang at that time, used to cut niks of hair out of their left eyebrows, so you knew who they were with.

not that this had anything to do with MAD MAX, just reminded me.
