For what it's worth, I come from a Jewish family and I paid no attention to Mel's anti-semitic rant. I was vaguely aware of it, but I never cared enough to actually familiarize myself with exactly what he said. It just seemed more like the kind of drunken silliness that should be laughed off, as opposed to taken seriously and causing deep offense.

Umm, disturbed by the tapes and content. Sorry folks, for me it puts an unpleasant slant on the whole Mad Max trilogy. Let`s face it, Mel is Max. Think i`ll take some time off....grow a beard...

may be a stupid question, iv heard the tapes but iv never heard, read or seen anything about Oksana OR Mel coming forward and denying it or confirming it. I do know Mel was dropped by his agent. It may not be him and in stead a paid actor or voice artist?

Lost cause is all I can think of.
Taipan you're definitely on to something, let me add the following:
1. Suicidal desire in Lethal Weapons.
2. A smoker and a drinker(like you mentioned above), suggests lack of self-control.
3. He QUIT acting at the height of his fame back in 2002. No matter how you look at it he didn't want to be on screen anymore. Since his looks were going downhill was he unhappy with what he saw?
4. Is his obligatory movie comeback it is aptly called "Edge of DARKNESS".
5. His wife is divorcing him after 30 years of marriage, she will get HALF of his BILLION DOLLAR wealth! This obviously is very stressful, to say the least.
6. He doesn't look like the old Mel at all anymore. Not just aging but letting himself go. The smoking, the drinking, the eating. He looks 70 instead of his real age of 54.
6. The self loathing has apparently turned him into A MONSTER!
You will ride eternal, shiny and chrome!

not heard the tapes and dont intend to ... but look at it this way

he is embroiled in an acute custody battle within which recorded phonecalls / conversations are now a standard manoeuvre

its perfectly legal to record such a conversation so long as one party is aware ... however this allows the recording party to portray themself in a particular way for the tape whilst pushing the buttons of and corralling the other party into an attitude or position that may be useful to bring to light later in the legal arena

saying someone deserves something does not equal an admission that that action was carried out

who knows what happened ... its for the experts in this field to decide ... releasing these recordings to the media was surely a tactical move on behalf of the ex ... the recordings would need to be heard in entirety to determine the arc of what was said / admitted etc etc and thats for the courtroom not the discussion board

frankly shameful stuff all round ... if theres enough to it a criminal charge will be laid otherwise it is scurrilous gossip

don't forget to draw flies, Bike.

Fuck it all, who gives a shit? anyone who pays attention to this kinda shit is the same kinda nosey fuck who peaks out his wondow and calls the cops when he hears a domestic in his street.

Mind ya business, its not harming my MAD MAX collection.. shouldn't even be in the General Max section anyway.

I don't know whether or not this discussion belongs in the general section (maybe "off topic"?) - that's for others to decide. But I just have to pause here and comment about "calls the cops when he hears a domestic in his street."
I assume you mean someone who hears domestic violence? If that's the case, then EVERYONE should call the cops. Many many women have died because their neighbors thought it was "none of their business". I'm not talking about a verbal argument here, I'm talking about violence or even the verbal threat of violence. If you ever hear that, the right thing to do is call the police.
You never know when you may be saving a woman's live or protecting a child (it's more than likely that there are also children in the house that could be in danger.)

Don't visit the sins of the fathers on their sons, and don't visit the sins of the actors on their films.
Mel may or may not be a racist fruitcake, and personally I think he is, but we've all said crazy things in anger. Why, I've went on rants about dismembering my ex-wife and cooking...nevermind...
