Maan them posters were straight up drive in theater style.I wish they did em like that still. Aus. poice forces especially the highway patrol used Falcon coupes for police cars so to me the B.O.B was a coupe cop car souped up to be the ultimate cop car.

here's my 2 cents...
1. to the comment about the pursuit special (nightrider's monaroo) in the garage, that was a budget thing. half the cars in the garage were wrecked in the first scene, they shot it out of order so it looked like they had more cars than they actually did...that's common mm knowledge.
2. as a little kid when i first saw the movie i always assumed the bob was an interceptor. it's the top of the top.
3. in reality all the mfp cars were v8's, in movieland i'm pretty sure the only v8's were nightriders and the bob. "she's the last of the v8's", meaning max's yellow interceptor wasn't a v8. "that's what hurts, it's one of our v8's", if they all had v8's, it wouldn't have been as big of a deal and all the other cars would have been able to keep up.
hope that made sense.
step right up, chum, and watch the kid lay down the rubber road right to freedom!

It's one of "their" V8's, could also mean it's one they built instead of the mainstream ones that are found in the "regular" interceptors and pursuit vehicles.

Naturally their own V8's are something special. I doubt the movie makers where insinuating 6's for all vehicles. Anyone that hears that wonderful rumble coming from Max's yellow interceptor knows that is no 6...
