Yup, that's about as low as I could find that gun listed new. But I was lucky enough to get on on eBay for around $10.
I would like it if the barrel were perfect, but then again, I'm going to stay screen accurate by never drawing the gun (and only occasionally letting infants play with it).
I also will need to paint the little logo circle on the grip silver, and on at least one side of Max's gun, there appears to be a silver diamond shape in the middle of the grip (based on the HD screenshots). Easy enough to add.
I do with the grips looked a bit more like real wood though, since the grip is the only part of the gun you'll ever really see while it's in the shoulder holster. Maybe I'll paint them or something at some point, but at the moment I've got bigger costuming fish to fry.
I do like the idea of the inert bullets though. You can catch a glimpse of them in the cylinder, even when the gun is holstered, and that glint of real metal adds a touch of realism.

Diamond like this? Maybe it's just a reflection.

(That's a model 25-2.)

Which model gun is that in the picture above?
I don't think the silver diamond is just a reflection. But I'll attach a pic. See what you think.
It also seems to have a band or stripe at the bottom of the grip that is a different shade than the rest. Still not the best shot of this gun. Maybe there's a better one out there.

Well, that definitely looks silver or gold, but if you look at the second grab, the shape is more defined (as a diamond). Also, Max's grip has a swell at the top that my pic doesn't have. I think that "band" is just the smooth part of the grip (also at the top); the inset is checkered so it doesn't reflect.
Here's where I found the pic: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolv ... grips.html
Another example (though this one has a brass insert):

I searched "S&W revolver grips" (and "stocks") and I'm not seeing a lot of grips with the diamond AND the S&W medallion.
Update: I'm sick in bed so I have nothing better to do than freeze-frame video. In the early scene where Max is strapping on his shoulder holster, you get a fairly good look at the right side of the grips and a brief look at the left, and I'm going to say the diamond is reflecting in the above grab. The only thing shiny I can see is the medallion.

Re: Max's Revolver from Mad Max
The stocks might have been aftermarket, which would account for the lack of metal inserts. I'm pretty much of the opinion that unless someone can prove the make and model used, it would be safe to assume the revolver is a Smith & Wesson, most likely a Model 19 in .357. It's one of the most commonly issued police revolvers in the world. And at that time, the .38Special round was the most commonly issued police caliber. The longer barrel is a bit out of place as the most common barrel length was 4 inches. But since the MFP was sort of 'elite', that may explain the longer tube. If I were doing a MFP impression, I'd use a S&W mod 19, .357Mag caliber, blued finish, heavy 'combat' stocks, with a 4" barrel and install permanent restrictors in the bore and chambers to make it a blank-firing only gun.
