There are always setbacks with every movie... It's inevitable that a lot of delays and changes are going to happen when production shifts from preparing to shoot in one country to preparing to shoot in another. Production staff and actors have to change if their schedules don't work for it, production costs rocket upwards. All their gear, personel and vehicles and things have now had to be shipped to Africa.

Australian motocross legend, Stephen Gall, will head over to Namibia in Africa for the next eight months to help bring the latest Mad Max movie to life. Working as the Motorcycle Assistant Stunt Coordinator, Gall's been told not to cut his hair to ensure he retains a suitably 'feral' look for the movie. Gall says, "If I don't cut my hair for the next eight months, then who knows what I'll come back looking like. I might even have dreadlocks!" Now that's something we'd pay to see on the evergreen clean-cut Mr Gall!

You’re also one of the lucky few to be selected as a stunt rider for the new Mad Max film, how’d that come about?

Stephen Gall was involved with it and he got me the gig after we did a few rehearsal days out at Matt Schubring’s a couple of years ago. So it's been a while in the making.

When does filming start?

It keeps getting pushed back, at the moment I think I leave on the 21st of May.

From the Facebook page of L.A. costume designer Chelsey Hemstreet ...
Sketching out ideas for an upcoming Mad Max post apocalyptic music video. I will be sending the director photo references of items I found at Uni with a very complete description of each look for as good as a costume designer as I am...I am no illustrator. I think this is an innate quality you either have or don't. I was able to get to a decent level in college...but alas that was 12 years ago and I am rusty to say the least!!!

I hope she meant Mad Max-style post apocalyptic music video.

Edit
Heard an interview with Australian Singer Missy Higgins today that she’d been cast a few years ago but her part had been written out during the post-greening of Broken Hill downtime script revisions. So Miller is constantly reworking this – I guess to suit each new production environment?

Mad Max movie makers lose Jaco

Amy van Wyk
8 May 2012

The experienced location manager on the set of the film, Mad Max4: Fury Road, Jaco Espach (45) was killed in a motor accident on Sunday morning. The accident which occurred in the early morning hours en-route to Swakopmund from Arandis on Sunday, claimed the life of Espach who has at least ten movie titles to his name.

He is a South African from Johannesburg. Espach was married and the father of three children. According to Mr Alan Shearer, his colleague's wife was on her way from South Africa to Swakopmund yesterday, They declined to release any information at this stage. The management of the film group would issue a statement at a later stage.

Deputy Commissioner, Otillie Kashuupulwa, Crime Investigation Coordinator of the Erongo Region, confirmed that the incident happened on the B2 and that a beige Land Cruiser left the road and overturned at about 04:30 on Sunday morning. Espach was the only occupant and died instantly. The accident happened about 10 kilometres outside Swakopmund. The vehicle was travelling in the direction of the coastal town.

Theron told the French press that filming doesn't start until July. As translated from French.
"Mad Max IV": Charlize Theron gives us information!

Posted by Screenrush - Thursday, May 10, 2012

While in Paris for the promotion of "Snow White and the hunter," Theron told us that the next "Mad Max" would turn (finally) from July, and it would be indeed the start of a new trilogy.

If Charlize Theron has been somewhat rare on the screens in recent years, due in three words: Mad Max IV . Committed to play alongside Tom Hardy for quite some time, the actress has faced various reports, with some leeway very very small to select other projects. While in Paris for the promotion of Snow White and the hunter (in theaters June 13), she told us that this time, it was the right, and that shooting would begin in July in Africa. She also added, off camera, that this episode, titled Fury Road , is indeed the starting point of a new trilogy, as was mentioned a few months ago ( see article ), while each installment will be turned separately by George Miller . Let those who despaired of Max Rockatansky never see on the screens so rest assured, because their hero is back soon!

When she says "new trilogy," I hope she means three new films that somehow connect with the previous three.

A smidgeon disappointed that it's not this month but at least this confirms she's still on board - which is terrific news.

Still the very slightest chance that she herself doesn't start until July, and the movie itself might begin sooner..? Hopefully she'll talk more about it in the next few weeks.

Motorcyclist Robbie Marshall talks about becoming a Fury Road stuntman.

Also, I've read stuntman/actor Stephen Dunlevy has already made his way over there. For those who've caught the TV series 'Spartacus', Dunlevy played 'The Egyptian' in a few episodes.

I suppose second unit filming could begin earlier.

I dont envisage shooting of this film to be happening anytime soon, if the lead actor dosent know what happening there must be something up....
Tom Hardy has admitted that he does not know when the planned Mad Max sequel will happen.

The British actor, whose latest film Lawless recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, told Empire that he is still waiting for George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road to confirm filming dates.

"We keep moving that around, you know?" he said. "Who knows when it'll come out? I've been on standby for two years... but it's all part of it. It's kind of the cool thing to do, to be elusive with dates and all that."

Asked what the sequel's storyline would entail, Hardy joked: "It's a musical - we're going to go around shopping centres in a little wagon and sing songs. People were expecting big, but we're going to give them small. It'll be a live, free-running musical and it's coming to a place near you soon."

Director Miller told Digital Spy last year that he had planned to shoot the fourth Mad Max instalment in Namibia early this year.

The Australian filmmaker wants to utilise custom-made cameras to shoot the action movie in 3D.

Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Zoe Kravitz were attached to star in Mad Max: Fury Road when it was announced in 2009.

Thanks for posting - but, for crying out loud!

Hopefully, he's just playing coy. The rest of his comments are pretty tongue-in-cheek.

Anyone got something more hopeful? Surely Charlize Theron's July comment is too recent for it to have changed again by now.
