Found these recent pics of the Mundi Mundi plains on someone's travel blog (follow the link and scroll ~2/3 the way down). Apparently they were taken within the last couple of weeks. The author adds....
The producers asked if they could poison landscape to finish filming and that was not taken kindly

As you can see, while it's not quite green, there's no red dirt to be seen anywhere.
While its looks nice and dry... the grass wont dissappear for a very long time.
If they are on private land (filming on a private farm arent they?)
Im wondering if its leasehold land?
Could be why they cant really do anything to it?

Since everyone has a rumor, I may as well throw in what I've heard from some right placed individuals:
MM4 will no longer be filmed in OZ. The studio deadline will not give them the 18months the country needs to return to desert from the rains. They are location scouting around the UAE and S.Africa and the cars would be shipped over there.
Interesting. Tom Hardy basically mentioned this in an interview at Comic Con over this past weekend, but he turned it into a joke, so I dismissed it as such. Dark clouds appear to be forming over this production once again.
