I'm not a Ford guy, but I've never been terribly impressed with either the Windsor or Modified 351's. I really like the FE family engines. We're putting together a 390 right now. The Cleveland is actually a fairly scarce engine here. I haven't seen anyone local hot rod one in over 20 years. I think the Windsors are popular because they are plentiful, but they are rapidly being replaced by the modular SOHC Romeo engine.toecutter wrote:Some people only know the 351C as the engine used for a time in Nascar. yanks in particular seem to think the windsor is the great v8 (like vanilla ice rollin with his five point o), when all right thinkers know the 351 Cleveland is the one true block.

I'm at the other end of the country, Florida, about 30 minutes from Disney World. Back in the mid-1980's, Clevelands were fairly common. Now you only see them in collectable cars at shows. Nobody hotrods then anymore. I know people who just hoard them but never build them. I think the scarcity stems from the lack of suitable sheet metal to run them in. Most of the Ford guys are running late-model Mustangs and I reckon it's just too much work to shoe-horn the Cleveland into that chassie. On top of that you just don't see much hi-po parts for a Cleveland. Let's face it guys, we're old-school.toecutter wrote:i dont know where you are, but last june me and two mates combed california for 351c d blocks, and filled a container. picked them up for around 100 bucks each. The Cleveland is actually a fairly scarce engine here. Yer kidding right. The 351 Clevo is a great engine but the Windsor based small blocks have a maaaaaajor aftermarket out there and you can build em to be absolutely evil. Me I'm a FE ford Fan I like the old school big blockstoecutter wrote:Some people only know the 351C as the engine used for a time in Nascar. yanks in particular seem to think the windsor is the great v8 (like vanilla ice rollin with his five point o), when all right thinkers know the 351 Cleveland is the one true block.
