Well I got the holster with plenty of time to spare before DragonCon. I was very impressed with it from the start. I could walk around easily with it and my Hudson shotgun fits perfectly; what more could you ask for? Unfortunately I had to replace the thigh straps with longer ones; but I knew that might be a problem when I purchased it so any fault there is my own. The only thing I might do differently is to make the thigh belts/straps completely outside of the holster. When you put the shotgun in, you have to move it a certain way or it will get hung up on the belts.

I've been looking all over for some pictures of me wearing it, but I've only found a few! You can kind of see it here:

I'll keep looking and post when I find more.

MFP shotgun holster?

Post by MFP 2020 »

So now that we have awesome screen grabs, any word on a regulation MFP shotgun holster? Anybody working on or sourcing one?

Excellent costume, Dave. You don't know the meaning of "half-assed," do you? ;)

Humvee, looks like you've done some weathering to the old Road Warrior suit since the last time I saw pictures of it. Looks sweet. I'll mention to the holster guy about the problem with the straps and see what he thinks (that's sometimes the problem with real life wearing of an item versus onscreen - we can't do a second take when our gun gets stuck)

As for an MFP holster - have no fear. The same guy who did the Road Warrior holster is putting it together for me. The first one should be ready within two weeks or less I'm told. Pictures will be posted then and hopefully he'll be ready to take orders. I'll keep you all posted and make a new thread for it when it's ready.

I think the price is $85. I have a link to it at the beginning of the thread.
You'd be welcome to have it shipped to my place and I'll give it to you before the event. The guy knows me and has my address so you can just tell him to send it to me.
You could probably even borrow my plastic shotgun from the picture to wear in it if you want.

Yep, I finally sat down with some paint and weathered everything up. I like how it turned out, too.

I might be in for an MFP holster. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Nice.
Pretty tough to take clear photos of an all black leather outfit indoors with a flash, huh?

UPDATE:
Here are some photos of my newly received holster along with my Hudson Mad Max shotgun replica.
A few changes have been made to the holster based on feedback from Humvee Driver (who received the very first one). The holster has been made slightly wider and the straps have been moved to the outside of the back of it. This makes the gun a bit easier to get in and out.
Also, since Magnolia was changing the holster anyway, they added a subtle stitching pattern to the front. A sort of oval that is visible in the hidef screenshots. It was done with "faux stitching" so that it doesn't add cost to the holster. I actually think it looks better than real stitching would because it's more subtle. The leather loop at the top of the holster has also been moved slightly.

This really is an amazing replica that is best seen up close. One of my favorite parts is the weathering. Magnolia leather (it's really just one guy but I don't know if he wants me to use his name so I just refer to him as "Magnolia Leather") managed to not just do the normal types of fading and scraping (something even I can do with acetone and sandpaper) but also added some kind of ripples and wrinkles to the surface that really make this holster look well used and broken in. And these help it really match the screenshots of Max's. These subtle details are hard to see in a photo, especially since black leather either comes out too dark without a flash, or too reflective with one.

Enjoy.
