I would like to think that is the case but I don't have any statistical information on comparative crime rates. When the temperature goes up so do the incidents of road rage and there have been cases of drivers taking shots at each other.( State law says while transporting a gun in a vehicle it is suppose to be unloaded and separated from it's ammo. Weapon must either be in plain sight such as a gun rack, or secured in the trunk err.. boot) Recently there was a "freeway shooter" taking pot shots at random vehicles with a hunting rifle. This proves that unfortunately stupid people can own guns too and it reflects poorly on those of us who are responsible and trained.

Intruder came Nose to Muzzle with a Remington Pump 12 Gauge that is stored in an umbrella stand next to the couch.





They had to Mop the floor after the intruder ran away....


But I think he'll give THAT house a wide berth from now on.


And they got a nice butcher knife out of the deal.

All of those are in.45 Colt, sometimes called .45 Long Colt, which is a different cartrige than .45 acp. Marlin used to make a gun called the Camp carbine in .45 acp, but it is no longer cataloged. You may still find one of those used, and it would be handy in that it used the same magazine as the 1911. .45 Goverment could refer to the .45 LC or it could refer to the 45-70 which is usually a rifle cartrige. I didn't know that the Storm was available in the .45 acp or the AR-15 gun, they sound like interesting guns, if a bit pricy. There is a carbine converions for the 1911 that I just remembered. Personally I think I would have counted myself lucky to have got a butchers knife than some lecture from a cop about tackling a would be armed and dangerous burgler with bladder problems. Nice ending to that little episode.


This thread has been interesting reading, coming from a culture that only sees guns on the TV. To put that into perspective, when I went on a short trip to germany 15 years ago I saw my first cop wearing a gun in a holster. It was a surprise to say the least. Yeah, I know that sounds kinda wimpy, but bullet firing guns in the UK aren't common place and perhaps 1 in 500 even owns a shotgun, let alone have actually fired one.


Kinda makes those gun related crimes a little more shocking to the UK's palate. Those US style machine gun drive by shootings make for front page news in the national papers and those nutcase goes berserk in a village with guns provokes knee jerk reaction legislation that affects everyone, except the gun toting law breakers.


There was an amnesty recently in the UK when people could hand in edged weapons without fear of prosectution. This was an effort to "get them off the streets" Now I can't help but wonder just how many weak bladdered drug addicts handed in their butchers knives in that little PR exercise. I have a modest collection of edged weapons, nothing even remotely interesting and numbers under 10 (30+ if you count my wood chisels) among them is a WW2 German dagger with scabbard. I caught some UK news footage of the amnesty, here on French TV, and some dickhead had handed one in! I mean, how much is one of those things worth to a collector!

My Bad. I was running under the assumption that the ACP & Colt were interchangable.

He's a firm believer in the "Different Ammo for a Different Job" and says that cabine wouldn't make a noticable difference in MV or Accuracy.





I dunno.. I'd think I'd get a bit higher MV and the accuracy is a given, IMO.. (Long Gun = Easier for most to Aim & hold steady)





As for England, I read somewhere that there are More Homemade Firearms in England than Factory made firearms (Outside of Military & Police)

Yeah, that's the biggest advatage of a pistol caliber carbine IMO. You can use the same ammo as your sidearm in a platform that is a easier to shoot and you will gain some velocity, even with the .45 acp. Some calibers will gain more velocity in a longer barrel than others will, but there will be some gain. I have a Marlin leveraction in .44 mag and I'm looking to get a .44 mag pistol to go with it.





As an aside I don't think I would like living in a dissarmed society. The right to protect your life or the lives of your loved ones is so fundamental that I cannot accept the idea of not being allow an effective means of defending them. Especially if those who would harm you are armed, no matter what the law may say. What's happened in the other english speaking countries of the workd in this regard makes me sad, angry, and worried. I fear it is just a matter of time before most governments demand that thier citizens (subjects) be completely disarmed for "safeties" sake and we'll be left to fend off the wolves with little but our bare hands.

Oh well, We'll see what strikes my fancy after I get the Shotgun.

My father was a career federal security officer and we were raised around loaded weapons. We were taught about them at a very early age. I don't believe there is such a thing as a gun problem, it is an education problem. The problem with disarming the good guys is the bad guys still have their guns. If it comes to that I will bury mine in the back yard before I voluntarily turn them in.
