Welcome aboard............

OK, I'm working on an event for Fall 2006. It will be locate in Collinsville, Illinois, right on the outskirts of St. Louis, Missouri.
Tentatively, we'll try to have a Mad Max event in conjunction with a local/regional sci-fi/fantasy convention similar to Dragoncon. Archon is not as big, but pretty well attended. Also has the advantage of several good parking lots at the hotels and convention center and the Illinois State Police right down the road. LOL!
Main advantage is that we'll be under the auspices of a known, long running venue with less chance of having misunderstandings with the locals. Also have possible benefits of financial assistance with guests (Vernon, Virginia, etc.?) and maybe free attendance for people bringing vehicles or contributing to programming panels. Plus, it's not like we'd be the only thing going on. There are panels on all sorts of sci-fi stuff, dances every night, costume contests, girls and assorted tomfoolery. Did I mention girls? LOL!
I'm thinking in terms of a car show type event, discussion panels on various aspects of the Mad Max trilogy and possibly a run, but I wanna give that a lot of thought and nail down all the details before I greenlight anything mobile. Just brainstorming, I can see maybe a parade type of event in St. Louis or Collinsville or maybe a tie-in event at Gateway international Raceway. If it's a full fledged run, we definitely do a police escort, set speed and interval. But like I said, this is all in the early stages.
My connection in all this is that I'm on the convention committee in charge of special events. I'm sure we can get this approved for Archon, but I wanna see what the level of interest is.
Comments, questions and feedback are welcome.
Mitch

Any interest at all on this? Or should I let it drop?

you know I'll be there., Brother. You are on the right path about linking our event with one that is established and well known. Keep the details coming.

I'm interested as well. I'm on the east coast, but I would very much like to get there!
Last of the V8 Intercepts, a piece of history, would have been a shame to blow it up

Archon is a good venue. As you can tell from my pic on the 151 "Who's Coming?" page, Archon is very costume friendly, even if the costume is not friendly.

(Hey, John, Look at the 'merchandise' (giant space-slug t-shirt listing), I didn't realise we were their 'creature shop'.....)
By the way-
For those that attended the 'event' in San Antonio....this is the car that didn't want to leave town:

.....should have been there.......
