Hi Bill.
OK I get it, Na... we pulled out of the aircon type system. We had it ready to go but could not get a set of sealed bearings, so we were going to have to carry oil in the old housing to lube the bearings.
At about that point Grant said this is heavy, clumbersome, and I am sick of it.
We swiched also because we wanted to organise engineers to be able to reproduce the system, the old air-con clutch was not going to lend it's self to reproduction very easily.
For a one-off I would see no reason not to go with the Aircon unit system.
So went went down another road, we still turn the blower off and on with the red button.
I have a small bit of film of the Japan car running with siren , Blower and under acceleration, thanks to the Gilmer drive of the blower belt it actually does sound blown.
I will get this film into the next video, covering the Japan replica, the video is still untitled and at an unknown release date, (ages away).
Cheers
Gordon.

Round two of Masx to the track saw times starting at 14.3 and steadily dropping as the air cooled.Final runs were mailto:
didn't gain any MPH from last week, but removed a lot of time due to tire spin.I had a pair of used speedway slicks laying around and mounted them up.Less wheel spin once they were well heated up,but I seem to have shifted the left side of my axle towards the rear.It may be that I sheared the locating pin off,so I will be pulling that side apart tomorrow and see.I got another 22 runs in tonight, pretty good for $20.00
Cheers,Bill

Dang, Bill. The old girl is posting some pretty quick times! Can't wait to see what she'll pull when all the bugs are worked out. Pretty impressive, indeed. Have you had her on a scale? What's she weigh? And have you dyno'd her?

Yeah,I got the same from him on ICQ but I haven't seen HIM post any yrack times for the world to see.Personally I don't think he can run it at the track (maybe they won't let him because of that silly carby scoop, you know, the one that looks like it's trying to poke it's head up through the hole in the hood.
Round three saw Max doing LOTS of mailto:13.6@100mph but I still have a lot of wheel spin when I launch (at 5,000 RPMs) and at the 1-2 speed shift.Heck,I was even speed shifting into third and not missing.I did put a 7,000RPM pill in my MSD so I could rev higher,I kept banging it off the limiter with the 6,000RPM one in the waterbox.
Has any of you that have raced these cars noticed the body flex in the middle,a LOT?I had a friend video all my runs (always do) and he says that the frontend is trying to come up and the backend is winding up and the middle looks as if it's going to bent in two!All I know is she's going good on the motor only and when I get the traction and now body flex fixed, she will be getting the gas,NOS.
On a side note, she DID strike back last night for me beating on her,After a 6,500 RPM burnout in second in the water box,a 5,000 RPM launch and three 5,800 RPM speed shifts, there was an AWEFULL racket coming from under the hood. After limping it over to the pit area and pulling the valve covers,I found that a pushrod had taken on the shape of the colon on your keyboard.Since this is the late night drags and this happened at 11:00 PM,there are only two auto parts stores to call, one is supposed to be open until midnight, the other is 24 HR.Borrow a car,go to the close one,it's closed, call the 24 HR one, none in stock.BUGGA!!Back to the track and VERY carefully straighten it out with two wrenches.I wouldn't have been SO worried about it,but it had gotten a nasty gouge in the tube from hitting the side of the head when it bent.Made it home,45 miles, OK and now it's time for some hardened ones.
That's all for now,I'm was too tired to fix it and take it racing this morning at Woodburn.Hey,two nights of drag racing,22 runs friday and 16 before 11:00 saturday,I was pretty well raced out.Cheers,Bill

I don't think they let guys drive pink cars at the strip... it crosses the whole drag/in drag line...
She still snatches in second...

Hey Bill.
This is one idea to try, I remember reading that Aussie circuit racing legend Dick Johnson (from the last 1970's and 1980's 351 racing Cleveland days) never used first gear in race starts. I do not know his diff ratio (guessing 3.25 or 3:00), or box ratio (Stock close ratio Toploader, I expect). But even at the tall geared Bathurst circuit he started the race off the line in second gear.
His circuit race prepared Cleveland powered cars, XC (coupe), the XD and XE were still most likely a 12 second cars at the strip. So I have no idea if the second gear thing would work for you, but by the sounds of the wheel spin you are getting with the street tyred coupe, you could most likely try using second gear for a run, Dicks car might have had a few extra horses but he was starting the race on fresh, new and warm racing slicks. So the power to traction ratio must be similar.
Dick was a smart operator, and professional driver, he would have timed his car and practiced his starts, and discovered that the second gear start was faster.
Just out of interest it might be worth a try in one of those 22 run nights.
Please give it a go and let us know.
Sounds like your Cleveland is getting a work out, 22 runs !!! Not to mention the clutch, Gosh 22 times a night of side-stepping the clutch at 5,000 RPM!
WHHHAAAAGGGHHHHHH...

Bill sounds like one of Reed's subframe kits will be in your future to cure the body twist.
