All good points Mitch. Our main goal when we look for cars is quantity of rust. The less rust the better of you are. At this point in the proceedings this car has ZERO rust. We will do a full on hoist inspection, underbody inspection, mechanical inspection and moisture and bondo detection tests before we give it the clean bill of health. These things are more important to us than "add-on" parts that can be had with relative ease.
If you get a chance to get together with Roy in Chicago you will see the same thing with his coupe as well. Clean, straight and 99% rust free. The perfect start for an Interceptor replica.
Can't wait till June!!!

Hey Phil! Also looking forward to Dearborn. Looks like we'll all be meeting in Chicago, huh? Logical place for the Midwest and Southern (Texas) guys.
Got any other XB shells available? I'm leaning more and more to saving the Gossie and getting another base XB for an Interceptor. This time I wanna go with a cleaner body. You've seen the condition of my car, right? LOL! It's always a trade-off between initial investment for a good, rust free body vs. getting one cheap that needs work. To paraphrase, "Rust is just a question of money, how little do you want?"
No regrets on the Goss purchase, but two fixer uppers is more than I want right now.
Bronze, sounds like you're in good hands. Almost everybody in the Aussie Falcon community is on the up and up. Phil is one of the good'uns, IMHO. The few duds hang out on the fringes, on ebay and the like, and aren't part of the well known regular group. Since it's such a small interest group, most everybody has heard of everybody else, and a bad rep would be the kiss of death to a shyster. Just look at Car 17 and some of the questionable ebay offerings.

Yeah...I just had to get by the whole "Cash and Dash" thing. I've been making some calls and applying for pre-approval at JJBest, and it looks like it's a go by Friday.
Now it's my turn for the plate conversation. I'm looking at these, in this order:
BRONZE PURSUIT SUPEROO MAXIMUS RDWARIR (I've already had this one)
Opinions, suggestions? 7 characters maximum
MADMAX is already taken (Holland MI, Green Pontiac GP Sedan) and don't want to infringe on the LAST V-8 thing...

Take a look at my question from back in November on the plate. The guys came up with some really good ones. I think the title was something like, "Need help with a vanity plate", or something similar. There had to be around 20 or 30 ideas that the guys came up with.

Scar: Yeah, I was in on that one as well. What's listed above is kinda my funneled down final choices (including your conversation), unless someone comes up with a killer substitute. My ears are still open...

Hey Phil and others.....
I am fairly new here. I am also in the hunt for a suitable base car to start a replica project. I emailed you Phil about what I am looking for. I dont know how feasible my criteria list is. Hopefully I will be able to find something. Phil, I hope this doesnt offend you, but I have to ask everyone.
There are a couple of companies out there importing falcons and other cars. What do you guys know about these companies and how trustworthy are they? I dont want to sound bad, but I am just trying to be an informed buyer.
I am looking for a 2 dr coupe with all the gt parts either installed or at least with the car, black gt interior, 4 spd toploader gearbox and 4 wheel disk brakes. I dont care if it has an engine or not. And the body has to have as little rust as possible. I dont care about the front fenders as they can be replaced easily.
Anyways, hope you guys can help me out. And it is great to be here.

There's gonna be a lot of Falcons over here pretty soon...

Hunter: A guy in the Australian Ford Falcon Club by the name of Rod Horner has an Interceptor/Black on Black for sale in Indiana right now for $10,000 (US). It has all of the bodywork done on it already, and the black interior is all boxed up. The car DOES need a drivetrain and a suitably black paint scheme. You might want to try him. If it's too steep for your piggybank, I'm financing my Fairmont through J.J.Best. They're going to finance 90% of it, which makes the payments $240.00 a month for 5 yrs, with no early payoff fees. Phil Newell at AussieCoupes.com has been VERY gracious and patient with me over the past few months in orchestrating the import of my car, which will be here in time for the 100 yr Ford celebration in Dearborn. Mitch went through MadMaxCars.com, so he's another bloke to chat with about another source.
Just a couple of thoughts...

I got my XA that I am building the "RED WIPEOUT XA" from, through MadMaxCars.com, and I would reccommend them highly. The car is in good shape, and they were stright about any and all problems it had. I got it VERY quickly, and they have been endlessly helpful in obtaining the little bits and piecies I need to do some basic restoration. I have met Phil before to and he seems to do a good turn for floks.
