The thing is, constant action can be exhausting and numbing when you're experiencing it passively, especially when it's the same thing over and over. I can totally understand a child zoning out of Fury Road after the first couple of chases.draknoir2 wrote:Mine has severe ADHD, and for that reason I expected him to like it more than he did, considering how much he liked the first two. Fury Road is like Captain Crunch with Crunchberries, only 100% crunchberries. All crescendo, all the time. If this movie can't keep your attention nothing will. Strangely enough we both had the same reaction.Artemis Flow wrote:obvious troll - there I feel better

I found myself switching off like darknoir2's kids lately after trying to watch Fury Road for the n-th time. I don't know, after all the hype died down and many viewings later - for me - there seems to be more pleasure in watching this movie from a "once MMBT sequel" perspective than anything else. Editing seems to be the main culprit here. In the original trilogy the pace was slower and shots were picked more carefully which gave them more weight whereas in Fury Road a lot of action scenes have such rapid editing I honestly can't keep up, no matter how 'center frame' those shots are. To the point it's frustrating! Rob Ager made the same point in one of his videos - there are often those quarter-of-a-second shots spliced into the action that really serve no purpose other than give action scenes more pace than necessary and they are effectively disorienting. This is my main gripe with Fury Road which really prevents me from enjoying it to the fullest. Or maybe I'm getting old.

I totally understand what you mean. In this context I really like the 'music'-analogy Miller brought up, he called it 'visual music'.Taipan wrote:It is, isn't it?Immortan Joecutter wrote:I really like this termdraknoir2 wrote: All crescendo, all the time.
And yes, Fury Road seems to be all crescendo, but I think only on the first hearings...
The whole movie is structured like a song:
there's an Intro = Max gets captured, tries to escape
you have the Verses = introducing Immortan Joe, Furiosa and Nux + introducing the Wives in the desert + Blue section
Chorus/Refrains = all 3 big chase sequences
Brigde = the Vuvalini part
End Accord = if you like, literally ending on a high-note standing on a lift...
Miller composed this film from start to finish and he wisely integrated some slower parts.
Otherwise it would be annoying to the audience and then we would be talking about a Michael Bay film...(or Transporter: Refueled

Luckily that's not the case. I watched Fury Road so many times now but it still gets better and better with every viewing.
The song keeps playing in my head

I got to the night scene where my old brain imploded. For me that part will always be Fury Road's geared up camera moment.Taipan wrote:It is, isn't it?Immortan Joecutter wrote:I really like this termdraknoir2 wrote: All crescendo, all the time.

Well movies tend to follow some sort of structure, there's lots of variations but five acts is common.Immortan Joecutter wrote:

Well on the same subject my christmas helper (UPS driver) who is 21 told me how much he didnt like Fury Road. I gave him an assignment over the weekend... go home and watch the Road Warrior. I was shocked today that he actually did watch it and he said it was night and day difference. he really liked it. I dont know, I really was hoping my kids would like Fury Road but im kinda proud of them for being old school like their ole man. My daughter has adhd also and maybe it was just to much for her.

Re: If Fury Road Is So Good
When I watch MM1 I find myself fast forwarding all the way through the holiday by the sea part in the middle , and after Fury Road some of the stuff in MM2 seems comical and almost a parody of itself it has dated IMO , I cant even watch BTD its sickly kiddie scenes and lack of car action annoy me
Some one had posted previously they saw younger folk walk out of MM1 during the same part when it was screened recently at cinemas
During one screening of Fury Road there were some guys who were what they used to call " spastics " or mentally challenged sitting in the row behind me , one poor fella sounded like he was actually strapped to the front of the cars on the screen , he sighed and hyper ventilated throughout the whole movie while his carer kept asking him if he was ok , it was quite funny as this fella hung in there for the ride lol
People have different tastes , I just find the title of this post a bit of a taunt and really if your kids didn't like it I don't give a shit and shouldn't have to offer an explanation why that is so

Re: If Fury Road Is So Good
MM1 bores me to tears too. I don't think I've ever watched all the way through more than once. I just watch the opening chase. I remember loving BTTD when I was a kid, but now, yeesh, that f**king chanting.
Road Warrior certainly feels different to me after Fury Road.
I think a lot of what seems like taunting is just a reaction to the critical acclaim and awards Fury Road is getting.
