In Fury Road Joe and his entire Armada was listening to the Doof Wagon pump out metal across the wasteland for nearly 3 days. An alternate edit of the film with no score and just what was going from the Doof Wagon would be hilarious especially the scenes near the end with the pole cats and People Eater Limo.

Melbourne metal fan here, can think of plenty of bands who namedrop or were visually influenced by MM. Pegazus for instance have a music video that is very influenced by MM1.

I'm friends with a band called Toecutter who play thrash metal... the vocalist is nicknamed Dr Death after the character from Stone, and wears a top hat with a feather in it just like him. And he owns (or owned) a replica XA at some point.

I can remember an aussie metal band, Mortal Sin. had their first album, a bit raw but pretty good generally, are they still going??

They split up a few years back (maybe 2010 or 2011)? I'm a heavy metal band booker and DJ as a side-job, I worked at one of their shows in the year or so before they disbanded. Cool band, their first two albums are great.

If I can recommend any other classic Aussie metal bands from the 80s, I suggest checking out Hobbs Angel Of Death and Nothing Sacred. I'd recommend more, but they'd be a bit heavier, as Aussie bands tend to be!

Whats the viewpoint on AC/DC?

Methinks it is time to call it a day, the tragedy of Malcolm Young, the sheer lunacy of Phil Rudd, its all pointing to the end isn't it. Ive not heard the last album but the reviews were mixed, bits I heard didn't sound a patch on Black Ice.

Its not like they need the money is it!

Just saw them at Wrigley Field last Tuesday. They were awesome. Best stage show I've seen, and Angus was a madman. That guy's like ten years my senior and he shreds. Malcolm's nephew(?) did just fine. So glad I went.

"The heavier the better" are some famous last words, Australia is known internationally (amongst hardcore metal fans) for some of the most ridiculously full-on death metal bands in the world

I'm still an Acka Dacka fan, and they are one of the few bands still on my bucket list -- I've been lucky enough to see most of my heroes live at least once. Aside from the dead ones, that is! I'll hopefully catch AC/DC before they call it quits.

On the subject of metal and Mad Max... someone on facebook the other night pointed out that Coma-Doof Warrior reminded them of Devin Townsend (if you don't know who that is... go hit youtube for some Strapping Young Lad action), and I looked at two pictures side by side, and guess what... he does remind me of Heavy Devvy himself!!! We all know that Aussie shred-guy iOTA played the Doof Warrior, but I swear, there's some serious likeness going on there, except for the shredding, which sounds like circa-1987 and needs to be waaaay heavier IMHO, lol.

If you like heavy stuff and haven't heard any Devin Townsend/Ghost/Ocean Machine/DTP/Strapping Young Lad, go and check it out, especially the latter!!!

I had a look at 'Strapping Young Lad' and it's not bad. It has good metal sounds, but it is not as heavy as what I'm used to.

Finntroll is a Finnish band that combines Death Metal with the influences of folk music.

SYL is pretty dated nowadays. Arch Enemy are great. I love Finntroll, and Finland in general. I'll be back there in January. They play HIM and Children of Bodom on regular radio stations during the day in Helsinki, it's great. Their version of the wiggles is a metal band of dinosaurs called "Heavysaurus"... rad country!
