Yeah he looks out of it, like he was hit upside the head in the previous scene and doesn't know where he is. Maybe that's how they decided to portray his damaged psyche. Can't judge the whole performance on just a few clips obviously, but he looked kinda dopey in this shot too.

I feel that's correct in more ways than one. And to be honest I'm feeling pretty bad for Tom Hardy at the moment because I'm not convinced his performance is the issue.

He's just a man, not a superhero. And this is a much more brutal Wasteland than the original trilogy's.

He can play him how he wants but there was nothing robotic about Mel Gibson's performance. In the first film he acts his arse off. I wouldn't call him robotic in 2 or 3 either. If anything, I'd call Hardy's performance robotic. I've said since the first trailer, Hardy looks a bit dim or more like Sad Max. I love Hardy and am looking forward to this film but I think it's Furiosa's/Theron's to steal tbf.

I didn't mean "robotic" as a bad aspect. He was a hollow, empty man... Tom's Max is different.

Ah, apologies. Certainly agree he plays him like that at moments - first half of RW springs to mind.

Hardy is reminding me of Vin Diesel in this and not sure that's a good thing lol.

IMHO, Tom's Max is very close to the MM3 Max... and just more distant from the MM1 Max or the MM2 Max. He's more vulnerable but I suspect he will be a much more better fighter than Mel's Max anyway.
