7" rims were indeed the widest from factory on any of the hardtops, XA/XB GTs and XC cobras...you can go an inch over that so yes, 8"...on an 8" rim you can safely go to a 265, don't go over a 50 series to keep your rolling ratio right...the illegal part is youre not going to have 265s on the front also (unless you dont like to turn corners), i have 225s front and 265s rear, thats illegal but cops never care since the big rubber is within the guards..
check with your local authorities regarding what can and cant be blue plated, and whether being on club rego/special use gives you a bit more freedom...there are plenty of performance cars on the road with holes cut in bonnets, real blowers etc protruding, especially in NSW...i was looking at under bonnet superchargers for a while but went the 408 stroker option instead, with a high rise manifold i need a hole in my bonnet...was told only certain set ups were legal but havent gotten into the specifics yet...i know alot are deemed a hazard to pedestrians (lol) and concerns over fluids spraying onto your windscreen should you blow a hose, but wondering if there is a way around this on a special use vehicle with a fake blower..same with the side pipes - fake and facing backwards they pose no danger to pedestrians so maybe they could be blue plated?..one of my best friends is a snr sgt in traffic in qld, another works for dept of transport and fiance is ex NSW police...see what i can find out...
will see if i can post a pic of the maxer on our cruise..such a doofus with computers it probably wont work tho

Sadly in QLD club rego wont allow any changes to the vehicle.
As for engineer approved mods, I know in NSW you can have a floating rear axle hubs which will allow you to fit wider rims legally, but cant say i have heard of it happening here in QLD.
The side pipes arent an issue with pedestrians.... its the fact that you have exhaust exiting below a window which can open. The law says (along these lines) that it must exit behind any window/ door that opens. Can probably get away with them on a panelvan.... but a coupe no.
Also any bonnet protrusion must be covered up by a bonnet scoop :
Any holes in the bonnet must not substantially reduce
the strength or impact resistance of the bonnet.
• Air cleaners or carburettors must not protrude
beyond the original bonnet profile unless the bonnet
scoop/projection is manufactured from equivalent
gauge mild steel, compared with that of the original
bonnet.
• Air cleaners and/or carburettors must be covered by
the bonnet scoop.
Not to mention:
Bonnet scoops/projections may be fitted to a vehicle
provided the driver’s vision is not restricted under
normal operating conditions with the driver’s seat
located at its lowest and rearmost position.
Sadly the laws in QLD are pretty anal, but what i dont understand is that if you own a hotrod which is built on a chassis older then 1947 (I think) then you can get away with anything!.... exposed engines, exposed blower, lap belts only, no need for a roll bar ...... pretty rediculas when you think about it.
Good to see another replica in QLD.... we should have a QLD meet up one day of the cars around... (once simon hurrys up lol).
