"Survival Run" was the original title of said book.
Still in print.. a Must Read, guys.. check it out.

Myself, I found the Giant mutant animals laughable (And I'm a Godzilla fan, go figure) but the overall plot and character development was quite interesting..
About time the book got a Movie adaptation.

(BTW, Escape from New York owes a great deal to this book.)

Ah, when I read the book, in the 1970s, it had already been renamed "Damnation Alley" in order to tie-in with the movie.

That's an interesting point you make about Escape From New York. Now that you mention it, Snake Pliskin and his whole situation really did have a lot in common with Crag. That was the hero's name in the book, wasn't it?

Yes I have seen the film recently. I again thought it was amazing. I loved the special effects. Practical effects will always be better than CGI. I loved everything about the film. My film teacher also agreed with me that it was a very underated and neglected film. I will definitly add the book to my summer reading list ;)

"Hell Tanner"

If I were doing a movie version of the book, though.. Who to cast? Hmmm

I'd skip the giant mutant animals and concentrate on the Human and environmental threats.
(I found the wonky Jet-Stream idea and it's effects very interesting)

Wasn't Damnation Alley also a saturday morning TV show ? , I can vaguely remember the movie , the truck was the only reason I watched it anyway lol

and back on topic because I've just read through it all , just wanted to confirm a couple of things
Brushed metal finish on Fury Road cars - I saw photos of this so yes , they have sanded off all the paint on some vehicles , dunno why . looks pretty cool anyway
Older Hot Rod type cars - yep few of these as well with big block V8's , in fact I was told after the constant griping of fans about fake blowers and motors in MM cars , all MM4 will have bad ass real V8's

My theory on MM vehicles ..
The vehicles used in the movies are scavenged from what is lying around after the war , I reckon this war took place in the early 80'S , so on mainland Australia at that time we had such gems as the XD Falcon and the 4 cylinder Commodore and it was a period of fuel crisis ( us oldies remember )
What would any half decent road warrior scavenge ? certianly not a Ford Escort when theres plenty of 70's muscle cars lying around , and the Hot Rods they use are also abandoned pre war vehicles sitting in garages around the country waiting to be looted
In MM2 we see conventional petrol engined vehicles with modifications , in MM3 we see cars running on alternate fuels and heavily modified in appearance , these are cars customs built for a new world.
I'm taking a stab and say the next movie will be set in time frame between MM2 and 3 and the vehicles in this are a bit more modified than 2 , thats because they are getting better at building them over time

No Artemis, you are thinking of the TV series Ark II. It featured a truck that was very similar to Damnation Alley's landmaster, but the two vehicles were totally unrelated.

Camera Department IT Assistant
Fury Productions

(Motion Pictures and Film industry)

August 2010 — September 2010 (2 months)

5 week contract
I assisted in the assembly and preparation of the IT equipment and servers, used to control a custom built camera system for the test shoot of Mad Max 4.

I developed technical documentation covering the entire process of the server preparation pipeline. My intentions were to speed up the troubleshooting process in the field, and the assembly process in the future, where there is a need for further servers to be prepared.

In the meantime, the Rosebery site [former RTA site on Rothschild Ave] has been used for a diverse range of purposes.

It even served briefly as a storage facility for cars from the upcoming Mad Max sequel, which was put on hold after heavy rains ruined the dusty outback settings.
