I agree 100% with this view. For me, it's one of the things that sets the first 2 films apart. The third kinda jumped the shark in my view (sorry Daz).
However, let's remember that Hardy called Fury Road a "re-imagining" of the franchise, so there's a possibility that the film will not take place within the exact same universe as the original trilogy. So while the Ripsaw might not fit anywhere in the original universe (and that itself is debatable), it will likely fit right into the new one. In fact, all these gas guzzling vehicles they're building for the film don't really fit into the old universe either. There doesn't appear to be a lack of petrol, something that was central to MM2 and a big part of MM3.
As a side note, is it possible these vehicles are going to be using alcohol-based fuels? Reading about methanol on Wikipedia, it says...
Methanol fuel is also used extensively in drag racing, primarily in the Top Alcohol category, while between 10% and 20% methanol may be used in Top Fuel classes in addition to Nitromethane.
Methanol is also used in Monster Truck racing.

There's also this article about alcohol fuels.

It's notable that these fuels are not petroleum based. All one need do is grow and harvest vast amounts of algae or some other biomass and convert it to fuel. No need for oil wells.

There was some Max rip off, I forget whether it was Warlords of the 21st Century or Battletruck, where the hero fueled his motorcycle with distilled chicken droppings.

Warlords of the 21st Century and Battletruck are the two different names for one New Zealand post apocalyptic movie.
And indeed in this movie the hero Hunter runs his bike on chicken shit

Ah, thanks. That film really wasn't very memorable. I hadn't realized it was made in New Zealand.

Read all about it on
IMDb.
One of the trivia's:
The top speed of the battletruck was 65 km per hour; it was the largest motorized film prop ever built in New Zealand.
It looks if it goes faster on screen and in one scene the driver almost lost control of the truck. It started weaving over the dirt road.

That truck was in incredible prop in search of a better movie. Kind of like Damnation Alley. Great trucks, awful films.

"Damnation Alley" is an amazing film, and by far one of the most underated.

Have you watched it recently? If you're working from a dim memory of having watched it when you were a kid, I suggest you have another look. Damnation Alley is pure schlock. Also, it's such a poor adaptation of the book it's based on that it shouldn't even have the same title.
