Max came back for only one lovely day!
Last weekend I went for a little city-trip to Dublin :D
I seized the day to go for a total of three screenings
(two of them were sold out).

At first it was a little strange to watch the film in Black and White
but from the second screening on I was used to it
and some action scenes worked better without colour
like the three-way fight between Max, Nux and Furiosa.

I was given the great opportunity to introduce Mad Max Fury Road (Black & Chrome) in Glasgow yesterday. This was the only screening in the whole of the city and it was an absolute pleasure to be asked.

I gave a brief introduction, with some humorous information and anecdotes from the three original film.

Then I took the audience for a wee waltz along the road to Fury Road with me mentioning the once mooted Mad Max television series, the 2002 announcement and shelving, the rumoured anime/rotoscope Mad Max films, and the once considered shooting of two films back-to-back, followed by Mel Gibson's infamous run in with the people/law/Hollywood, Heath Ledger's name being bandied about...until finally we got a brand new film with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. I finished up with a few Fury Road facts and then had a free raffle draw.

I've recently returned from performing and working in Australia and dropped into Adrian's smashing Mad Max Museum in Silverton. I picked up a few bits and pieces of memorabilia and a case of Victoria Bitter, and used these for the raffle prizes. Having no hat to use for the raffle ticket draw, I asked an audience member for a boot to use (if you've seen Fury Road, then you'll understand).

And how was the black & chrome version? It was absolutely great and I spotted loads of wee things I'd never noticed before. Well worth going to see/owning if you get the chance!

I saw Black & Chrome in the cinema the other day. It was a whole new experience again. It made the film much easier to watch without all the crazy colour. I noticed so many things I hadn't before and some scenes were a lot more impactful, especially the Vuvalini scenes.

It also has a new sound mix which is WAY better than the original theatrical and DVD versions. Everything is much clearer with a lot of added new sounds. I wish the DVD/blu-ray had this mix.

Yes, I've noticed that too. There was also less grunting to hear from Tom...

I felt all the dialogue sequences benefited from the missing colour, for example the 'redemption-conversation' between Furiosa and Max
and the 'what happened to your mother incl. catching the spirit'-scene with the Vuvalinis.

The only thing I missed was the colour of Doof-Warriors red dress

I noticed that too with the dialogue. People were laughing at things that nobody had in the 4 previous times I went. My friends remembered a bunch of the dialogue too which never even registered with them before.

Yeah he was pushed more to the back without his red jump suit sticking out.

I wondered about the sound too and thought it was just me. I never had a problem with the original mix, but 'everything' about the black & chrome version was jumping out at me...grrreatt stuff!

Back in the days of black and white film, costume designers would use really odd colour combinations because they knew they'd contrast better when monochrome.

Is there any news on the silent movie version yet?

I can't see them releasing another Black & White version anytime soon. Calling it the "Black & Chrome actual version/Sorry about the other incomplete one you all bought" version blu-ray wouldn't go down to well.

I talked to the original creator of Black and Chrome (the fanmade version the official release got the name from). That version is what we're all after sound wise, except for one tiny little detail.
Sync issues. Because certain parts of audio were removed from the movie (namely, all dialogue) it left some empty spaces that had to filled in with music that came from the CD. Due to the movie's odd framerate it caused the music not to sync up with the rest of audio which caused phasing issues - this weird 'tunnel sound' every once in a while.
Technically I think there's a way to combat this although I would have to have all 6 channels extracted so i can work on them and mix them down properly again. I think I could pull it off, I'm an audio engineer.
So yeah, if any of you know how to extract individual audio channels and kick them over I could create a 'mute' version of Fury Road.
