I'm heading to the Great Ocean Road soon,

Any idea exactly where Max's beach house is located. Wouldn't mind getting a few shots.

Information gathered thus far:
http://www.madmaxmovies.com/making/madmax/index.html
Max's house is in Fairhaven (near Lorne), and was sold to new owners in January 1997, for approximately $650,000 (see The Age, property section, 19th January 1997). The address given in the article is 310 Great Ocean Road.

Image

310 Great Ocean Road definately looks like the place!

I'll come back with some beach-side shots.

Also why arnt people allowed to drive down there, all i see is a bird watching area? But the road comes to a scary gate. One that you really cant enter.
As others have answered, the wooden gate has been replaced, probably 10 or so years back now. So it is the same location, but does look different. The other locked gate further down the road - sometimes it is open (I have been through there once). Some other parts of the opening chase were filmed just inside there. I have only been far enough to see that part of it, I didn't follow the road to the end. It used to be a restricted military area in there, I believe primarily used for training, although a lot of it is wildlife preserve down there also. I'm not 100% sure what they do in there these days, or what the exact restrictions are - they don't seem to keep the security that tight, so I assume there's nothing of high importance in there.
WITTY35 wrote:Also im after the house down avalon beach,as they have all changed over the times, which is the house or shop used by jessie getting an ice cream.
Haven't been in there in a few years (and it was basically unchanged last time I was there!), if the house is still there, the sloped roof should be quite identifiable. I believe the actual house numbers were visible in one of the publicity shots / lobby cards, I've just done a quick scan and can't seem to find the image though. Will check my own pics archive when at home, maybe someone else has it.

Bit more digging around today and found this link:

http://www.realestateview.com.au/Real-E ... 16137.html

That's right, you can spend the night at Max's beach house ($1000 per night, minium stay 2 nights).

Here's that other image you're after:

Image

House number on the lobby card is 25, so still located at 25 Avlon Road, Avalon (right at the end of the road on the coast), third main building from the end.

Image

The shop is the one to the right, the second last main building on the coastal strip:

Here's a Google Maps street view of the cut scene location where Max and Goose have a drag race,

Image

It is the Salmon Street overpass, Port Melbourne (heading East on the Westgate Freeway) and the car and bike were facing West.

Requested permission to access the Pumping Station at Spotswood recently and Museum Victoria/Scienceworks staff said I'm welcome to visit the courtyard via the main gate but the internals (tower stairwell, offices, circular window etc) are definitely no public access due to structural integrity issues. Bummer!

Image

As for access to the Western Treatment Plant (Point Wilson Road where Roop's bunker is located), staff at the Western Treatment Plant haved quoted, "No issues if people restrict themselves to walking directly from the road to the middle bunker. People should not be concerned about passing the restricted area signs on Point Wilson Road at the intersection of Beach Road. There should be no issue from a security point of view if people stop on the side of the road and walk to the bunker. They must not however go beyond the bunker or across grasslands".

Image

In other news, The Melbourne University Traffic and Parking Coordinator has stated on a recent visit enquiry (driving my vehicle to the South Car Park, MFP's underground garage), that "This is OK with me. You will need to enter via Gate 10 on Grattan Street".

Image

Stop Press! The 'shop' at the beach on Avalon Road has a for sale sign in the window!

So call Kevin if you're interested in a piece of film history:

God I love living a stone's throw from all these great locations!

Have a guess what this one is...

Just had a chat with Kevin Gunn, the agent selling 27 Avalon Road, the 'beach shop' where Jessie gets icecream in Mad Max.

Image

Kevin said the current owner wishes to sell but has refused an offer of 90,000 AUD but will accept 100,00 AUD. The property has no title, so you can't arrange finance via a bank loan. The current owner will sell for 100,000 AUD, sign an agreement relinquishing ownership and hand over the property so you simply keep paying the rates when they arrive. So if you want to own a piece of Australian film history and have a lazy 100,000 AUD lying around... call Kevin Dunn on 0418997914 and make a purchase!

Funny fact. When Big Bopper/ Rupe & Charlie take off from side of road (Point Wilson Rd) at start of movie after Roop was playing I spy. They do a U turn & take off left & drive around only to come out of the gate near where they took off from in the 1st place, but turn Right this time.
