Is it an april's fool?? Sorry my english is not good enough to fully understand that kind of verbal "subtleties" .... I recognize some parts from the october 2009 press conference, but the Mel Gibson part??? Yeah, I'm the fool here... it has, sadly, to be a joke.

EDIT:

Well, that joke only reminds me how sad I am to not have Mel Gibson in the next film... it's really a shame...

It appears fairly certain now that this movie will be made. The following took place at the Warner Bros panel at CinemaCon last Thursday (3/31).
After the 2011 preview montage, Jeff Robinov (President of WB) took the stage and talked about some of the other movies they have coming up. Whenever the head of a studio mentions a film, you know they are seriously developing it. The highlights for me was hearing him say Mad Max: Fury Road, Gravity, A Star is Born, and The Great Gatsby.

Is this a joke too? I can't believe this! If this is legit, it could delay Fury Road production start....

HF2 will be released as scheduled. There really is no other option at this point. This just sounds like they're working through some production problems, something that probably happens on most films.

Anyone know if the area around Broken Hill is drying out yet? Rains and lush vegetation remain my primary concern.

It is as wet as it has ever been up there. I'm actually curious as to how they propose to start filming in the second half of this year, I can't possibly see it dryng by then. Once the sun comes out in Spring / Summer, that will do the trick pretty fast (providing there is no more rain), I just can't see them getting away with filming much outdoors before then.

I've seen articles in the past week or two about the amount of water still up there, dam releases, etc. Can't find those specifically currently, but here's one from the general area:
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/media ... 030101.htm

For those with Back 2 The Max, the campire sequence was shot down in this area - you can see the lakes in the background. That was filmined in 2002 when the water was already receding, they've been empty of water for years since then. Hard to imagine a dry area of that size being full of water again in such a short space of time.

Recent rainfall has set back relief from flooding around Menindee, as State Water continues to monitor weather conditions so it can respond to any new flood threat.

The Office of Water, together with State Water, released its seventh information paper on inflows, levels, operations and management of the Menindee Lakes - which are at full capacity - late last week.

The report said that releases from the Menindee Lakes to the Lower Darling River and Great Darling Anabranch were being managed as floods from northern NSW and Queensland pass through the Darling River system.

Well, that sucks. Didn't realise it was still that wet down there.

As for filming, Miller last said that...
"We will restart pre-production later this year and begin early next year -- weather permitting"
...so filming won't start until your mid Summer, or thereabouts. Hopefully things will have dried out by then.
