At no point do I hear him fly off the handle or start to scream uncontrollably or say he is going to kill her or beat her up.
He says he'll burn her house down, and that she will blow him before he does this. So we have a threat of forced oral copulation and a threat of arson, from a man who in the same breath was saying she deserved to be gang-raped for dressing provocatively. This is very violent talk, and I would not blame any woman for feeling that her physical safety was in jeopardy if a man said such things to her.
And?
He said it wouldnt surprise him IF SHE was gang raped because she dressed that way....
Again at the end of the day... WHO CARES?
The conversation was PRIVATE.
It was NOT SAID IN PUBLIC.
Obviously you or none of your friends have ever said anything nasty to a former partner, your all saints?
The mere fact she recorded it and then gave it to the media show how incredibly stupid and immature she is.
Its like a 12yr old saying im gonna dob you in.
The problems are THEIRS.. not yours or anyone elses.
Again this was PRIVATE conversation.
The only thing i see is a meltdown of a relationship which has nothing to do anyone but those involved.
It has nothing to do with the media or those wanker celebrity commentators.
How concerned are you about the oil well which has now been spewing out millions of barrels of oil per week for how many months?
What about the total destruction of the ecosystem?
The deaths of thousands of birds, fish and other wildlife?
The loss of 1000s of people jobs and livelyhood?
This is what people should be concerned about.....what people should be getting angry about.
Perspective is what is needed.
At the end of the days Mel yelling at someone in private phone conversation is meaningless.

On the one hand, this makes me sad. On the other, I realize that I've been "in love with" (for lack of a better term) the characters he's played. About Mel the man, I know very little.
I think this is just further proof that having outrageous riches means having no boundaries, and having no boundaries makes you crazy (Tom Cruise, Michael Jackson).

Well this
is a Mad Max forum, so I would think that current events regarding Mel Gibson would be a suitable topic for discussion here.

He also said she deserved it.

I have never, and would never, tell a woman that she deserved to be raped.
The mere fact she recorded it and then gave it to the media show how incredibly stupid and immature she is.
She was afraid for her life. Without the recording, it's just her word against his. With the recording, she has some hope of getting the police to take her seriously.

It's funny you should ask. I am
extremely concerned about these issues. So much so that I've just recently launched a new blog on the subject. It deals not with the BP spill, but with a far bigger oil spill and ecological disaster which occurred in the Amazon rain forest in the early 1960s. Please have a look at it and consider signing up to "follow" it. I need all the subscribers I can get:

It is precisely because we love him that this is so troubling.

I'm really quite disappointed in you guys. Don't you think if that tape was real it would be all over the news? Yet there's been nothing about it, other than people doubting that it's real. Personally, I'm almost totally convinced it's a fake.

Sadly, it's not a fake. I too was suspicious for a little while because it wasn't all over the place. Now it seems that that was because the website that has the tape wants to monopolize it (a trend in "news" that I find disturbing, but that's another subject).
You can go to radar online and hear parts of the real recording. I work with a lot of people who impersonate celebrity voices for a living; I wish I could say this is one of them, but it's the real Mel.
I think MFP2020 said it best above. For me, it's about separating Mel from the characters that I have enjoyed so much over the years. He got one semi-pass with me for his drunken rant at the cops a few years ago, but now I'm out. A Max fan - always. A mel fan - not so much.
On a lighter note - comedian Aziz Ansari put this on his twitter feed when the story broke: "Damn any celebs trying to get in trouble for saying racist stuff, step your game up. MEL GIBSON IS KILLING IT RIGHT NOW!"

Take a listen and decide for yourself. Anyway, it's not "all over the news" simply because it is NOT news. It's tabloid fodder, nothing more.

As for Oksana, she ain't no saint either. Secretly recording Mel's angry rant, then releasing it to the public for the sole purpose of doing his public image harm.
