Dave, IMHO, even with an air soft piece, I'd rather have a real handgun scope then a rifle scope. At least it would be visually functional. I'll be set up at a show next weekend so let me look around and see what I can find. Used optics are very common and usually pretty cheap. Used handgun scopes usually can be found with the internal adjusters out of whack (recoil is tough on them) so they end up in the discount box. Useless for live fire but perfect for what you want.

Thanks, I'd really appreciate it. That sounds like just the place to find what I'm looking for. Too bad there aren't any shows like that around here.
Thanks again,

Well, it won't be much of a show but it's all we have here in Bubba Land. The only positive point will be that if I find something it'll prob be reasonably priced because the local idiots won't know what they have. I can't wait to move back to Florida.

I have to laugh everytime I see the "humongous vs gyro captain" scene.
While the handgun with the massive scope looks 'the goods' on film, it would be a highly impractical pistol to use for anything other than stationary target shooting.

I tend to agree. It definately had an intimidating presence and looked great on screen. Larger then life, just like the Humungus. The whole set-up is more for hunting then target shooting. I don't think I'd want to take on a water buffalo with it, but it should be enough for just about anything else on the continent.

I took some pictures of Humungus' revolver to a local gun store and asked them if they could ID the scope. One guy said without hesitation that it was a Tasco. I looked at a bunch of Tascos, and they certainly do look close, but I couldn't find one that was a perfect match. I did buy one (for VERY cheap) that looks very much like the real thing. But, it's not perfect, so the quest continues.

I finally heard back from a company that sells a replica Smith and Wesson Model 29 with an 8" barrel in black. They said that their gun is only available (shipping or otherwise) in Japan. I don't suppose there is anyone on the boards that could pick one up for me? Here's the link; it's the second one from the last:

I may have found one on my own. I'm waiting to get a better look at it.

That's all for now,

I didn't see a single handgun scope at the past show, but it was a really small venue, only 100 tables. Slow too, I only did a few hundred. But I did pick up a nice NIB Vector UZI pistol on a trade. There's a 500 table show in Knoxville next weekend so I'll prowl that one too. I've been to the big show several times and it's the type where you find the type of things we're looking for, lots of parts and accessories. There are some airsoft vendors who always set up there so I'll ask about finding a 29.

I got my Smith and Wesson black Model 29 revolver with 8" barrel in the mail yesterday, here it is:

And here are some comparison shots:

I think the only thing I need are some lighter colored handgrips. I'm going to a few gun stores to see if they have any. I'm also going to pick up some dummy .44 rounds.

The scope I have is very close, but the mounting brackets are wrong. I'll be looking for some more of those, too.

On the handgrips you can try a fine steel wool buffing. The grips will lighten up a bit
and look more like well worn hardwood.

Well I put the scope I found on, and while it's not perfect, it will have to do. It does look pretty close, though.

Now I have to get a box made, figure out how to do the velvet packaging in there, and collect the medals and pins. This stuff never ends...

:D
