Well said MANIAC MICKY. I totally agree, I just got lucky and scored a coupe for 3 grand and would take an awful lot to let it go, especially to some baby boomer offering 20 grand plus, why, because they can.
Too many are heading overseas these days and was able to salvage at least one, but I'm just an average joe always dreaming of owning a coupe and in my opinion now I have one, a price cant be put on your dream.

Thanks for the link Mark... I'm curious as to whether the cars listed on that page are actually being sold for the prices listed, or if they're being negotiated down. Certainly you can still purchase similar cars to those listed on the local market considerably cheaper than what I see listed there. But I guess if you're specific about what you want, or live overseas and can't scour the local market here quite so easily, people might be prepared to pay a premium. Some of those prices do seem well over the top though, even taking that into consideration.

i recently bought an xb coupe, it cost 18 grand. it is in reasonable condition, with an unsymapthetic 80's resto reflected in the bizarre interior . i was after a 351, 4spd, 9 inch 2 door and found one. the ony rust is in the drivers side rear wheel arch lip. it needs a little bit of panel work and a touchup here and there on the paint, but that was factored into my offer.

one thing i didnt want to do again was a bare metal resto. no time these days. i looked at lots of mainly xb's, and in the last year the price has risen 5-10k. gt 2 doors start at 26k for drivers. i saw one advertised at 140k. really. i had to see it, mainly to meet the bloke who thought a stock 2 dr gt was worth 140k.

i think most sellers have unreasonable expectations, mainly based on ebay prices. too many that i looked at had expensive to repair rust, and when this was pointed out it didnt seem to move the price. they often declined serious offers by saying they would get their price on ebay.

i know of a car on the australian muscle cars site that was advertised at 25k.

a p76 exec, orange with black interior.

it eventually sold for 12k - on ebay.

i can understand monaros and slr's being desirable.
mustangs have jumped 10-20k in the last 3 years. main problem is GISS movie, 67's are hard to come by for reasonable prices.
also ridiculously expensive are american dodge chargers 68-70. heaps of rust that sellers want 30k. slap on some orange paint and stickers and expect $200,000!!!

That is the #1 reason why many can only dream of owning a piece of muscle history. And the lack in the financial department has me pretty much giving up on it unless I get very very lucky.

Apparently while prices are still at record high's no one can afford to buy them due to rising inflation and the "credit crunch".......maybe we'll see some prices dropping but the days of getting a 5 grand drivable coupe are long gone. On a side note : Maybe its just me but it gets my blood boiling when I see people still buying everything on credit rather than being patient and saving as I always have. If you are good at neither then just go without, I always have!

there is heaps of them up here in QLD but it doesnt mean that the owners are willing to sell them, I bought mine after 4 years of hassling my cousin to sell it to me, it was under his house and its only inhabitants were chooks!

There is no doubt there is a lot of coupes in QLD, but the one thing annoying me is all the bloody parts for them are in VIC.
