Dodge and Chevy going retro too?

Following Ma Mopars history of building what they concept out, I can see this thing on the road in three to four years. Hopefully it won't look dated next to the Mustang (during it's DEW 98, 3-year refresh period) and fall out of favor with everyones fluctuating interest in mod-resto. If they build it, I would definitely drive it. With the SRT8 package, you'd be looking at $32k - $38k...basing it on the current LX platform...which is in the GTO price range. If there's a base level (possibly V-6 option) you'd be looking at the mid-20's...still within Mustang GT range. The GTO is going for $28k-$35k right now. Let's not forget the $1000-$3000 gas-guzzler tax either...ack!

I don't get it. Why would they name this Fairlane? It looks like a yuppie minivan.

Fairlane...it's following Ford's "F for Ford" theme when naming all of their cars. IE: Focus, Fusion, Freestyle etc. Trucks have been that way for years: F150-600. I don't know were the "E" thing came from when they started calling their SUV's Escape, Exploded, Extradition, Extrusion etc. Now Mercury is doing the same thing. IE: Marauder, Milan, Marquee... etc. It's all marketing and "corporate identity." Help at all?

PS: Chrysler is using the platform name when naming some of their vehicles: PT Cruiser is just one example.

Econoline I believe.

I don't mean why it begins with the letter F. I mean, why reuse a classic name from the 50s/60s if it doesn't share ANY similarities. If I hear the name Fairlane Concept I think retro vehicle like the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger.

That Fairline looks like a stretch version of the new Range Rover:

Love the new US muscle cars. Come on Ford UK sort it out and build a new Capri that looks as mean!

"That Fairline looks like a stretch version of the new Range Rover:"

That's because Range Rover IS part of Ford now, so is Aston Martin, Jaguar, Mazda and Volvo.

Saab, Hummer, Saturn and a couple others are part of GM now as well.

If you go to the big autoshows, you'll notice all of the manufacturers are grouped together. For example, Ford is on the North wall, with Volvo to the South, Aston Martin, Range Rover, Jag and Lincoln to the West, and Mazda to the East side of the Ford display at the Detroit show (NAIAS) in Cobo Hall.

"E" for Econoline sounds good.

I just meant that Fairlane was another "F" word, and that design/marketing was probably doing a drawer-pull to get an old iconic name resurrected for a new vehicle. Sound reasonable? But if it's an SUV shouldn't it have an "E" name...maybe resurrect EDSEL for such a box on wheels?...lol.
