Hey XA
Ha Ha ha don't get me started ...I have a ton of those kind of quotes.
Back to addicted to Base clip, that guy was on the message board at one time, he did a great job with the clip, and we all let him know that.
He said the cars broke down all the time.
Although I don't think that it was related to break downs the filming took a week.
I did say "Mate you should of called , for the price of a plane tickect we could have mocked that black car up to look awesome in a few hours with pop rivets and duc tape!"
As it happened he would have been glad to take us up on that if he had only known how strong the following was and that so many would have offered to help.
Cheers

I love that 'Request for the INTERCEPTOR REPLICA's you build, GORDON, i think its perfect, and i personally would expect the same, if i was the builder of such a car.
You can't ever let people know the 'true' performance of such a car, i agree it would completely destroy the mystique.
But hey, at the same time, maybe we shouldn't be so hasty, a 351 CLEVELAND, ain't exactly a low performance engine, jesus...

I wouldn't make those statements to just anybody........ everyone here is able to take those opinions at face value, without infering that any replica can outshine the original. (as was not my intent, mostly thinking how Mr. Page would feel about the dynamic abilities of Mark Scarselli's 600hp BoB.)
The BoB is the end-all-be-all of automotive design. It was love at first sight, my first love, and I'm still smitten (in lust really, ) over 20 years later.
And as for destroying the mystique, never! I loved the fact that back in the 1985 issue of Popular HotRodding, featuring the original BoB, (the first time I had confermation as to the vehicles true manufacturer, Ford) there wasn't one shot under the hood. What was going on with that blower....what mill it was running....that was left a mystery. Oh, the intrigue! It only served to fuel the passion.

Not really MM related but t his topic reminds me of the time I drove a De Lorean, talk about ruining a perception!!
It struggled to start and when it did it sounded like a Toyota Hi-ace! The brakes where sh*t and it under steered ..and I doubt Marty McFly got her up to '88mph' in the quarter mile.
Still want one though

When will the book be published ... how long is a piece of string?
I have pretty much completed the research phase ... selecting the films ... watching the films ... detailing the vehicles involved.
The next phase is the interviews which I guess is around 50% complete. There are a number of high profile (Directors in particular) interviews that can only occur 'when available' meaning that I have to wait for when it suits them and when they are in the country. There are others interstate that will require some field work. I expect that this will be completed by the end of the year.
The final phase is compiling the research and interviews into an accessable and interesting whole. I will also have a considerable amount of copyright clearance to deal with for photos and any direct quotes.
That said I am due to submit a first draft by May '04.
So it won't be ready for Xmas stocking stuffing but will make an ideal Father's day gift for next year.
When I took on the project I was only dimmly aware of just how much work was involved. I am quietly confident though that it will be well worth it. Hell ... I'd buy it if someone else did the hard yards!
