thats right INTERDICTOR, the 'BLACK ON BLACK' was a way to "seduce max with candy", just to keep him on the roads, so he wouldn't quit, almost worked too...

RacerX: I didn't hear/understand about the Nitromethane gas. I remember the mechanic saying "Yeah, sucks nitro," thinking it had the silly stuff like Humongees' ride. His fuel mileage had to of sucked then...literally. If Top Fuelers go through 14 gallons in a 1/4 mile with 5000 horse, what would Max burn through with 20-25 gallons at 600 horse? Just think of how long that Cleveland would have lasted though too...
If everything in the world is right: I'm looking at putting in a 429 Thunderjet, 6:70to1 roots-type (30% underdriven) "constant" blower with a C/6 auto (stage 2), 9" posi (Columbian if I can find one), and put a 1-2 sec. burst of silly stuff connected to the big red button. It'll take 2 yrs and about 10G. How's that sound, eh? I'm thinking of one of these three plates as well; PURSUIT, BRONZE or MAXIMUS.

Foxtrot, Apparently (according to the novels, which I have not read) The Nightrider's Monaro was damaged from the chase, and that is why Max was able to catch him so easily.
Your run down on the pecking order is what I have always believed, but we are in the minority. The filmmakers didn't seem to know what to call it either. We have the MFP dispatcher calling it a Pursuit Special, and the Mechanic in MM2 a V/8 Interceptor.
This assumes of course that the "unauthorized use of a pursuit special" is actually referring to Max. His name is never used, and as the movie starts out with a stolen Pursuit Special, this may happen more often than the MFP would like.
Max's car is purpose built for Max out of spare parts, and is therefore not a standard build Pursuit Special. They may not have had a specific internal name for what it was, so the dispatcher just called it a Pursuit. It may have been the only Interceptor Special in existance. Even years later, the Mechanic recognizes it as something special: "The last of the V/8 Interceptors."
We'd also assumed that Max had some further modifications done to the car by "Underground Mechanics".
I know some of our local Highway patrol guys did the same to the Mustangs they drove in the mid 80's.
(I know of ONE that had a Hypertech Chip in the ECM & a Paxton Centrifugal blower.

My view of the Black on Black has always been that the car was some sort of factory experimental Prototype that had been purchased & further modified by MFP Mechanics.
"It just happened, Max. A piece form here and a piece from there" IMO, sounds like a deception.
The Mech was under orders to not tell Max why they had the car or where it came from.
(The Mech reminded me of so many mechanics that I'm aquainted with. VERY good with standard repair & speed mods, but totally out of their league with the more techy car stuff..
Merely speculation on my part, however.

Sounds like like the next Lunar attempt.

I'm the first in my state to get Fury Road on my license tag.
Max caught the stole Monaro Pursuit Special so easily because the NightRider stopped trying and started crying like a "Wittle GUUUURRRRRLLLL"

yeah, there wasn't enough damage to slow down NIGHTRIDER (in the movie anyway), all he needed was some panel beating, he just lost the will to keep going.

So anybody else ever come up with a paint scheme for a yellow XB coupe instead of just for the sedan? Figure the black paint scheme was special. But maybe there were more coupes than just Max's Interceptor. Maybe in yellow? Or black sedans? You have to put some sort of sense to the color schemes and markings. Bureaucracies decide the uniformity of these things, and I figure that the standard yellow/red/blue marking scheme could have been applied to other coupes. And maybe there were black sedans? Makes for interesting variations in the fleet.

Anklecranker, outside of the silly stuff, I know of two XB's that have already done it. I typed in XB Falcon on the search engine and looked down through them, finding one in Au., and the other in New Zealand. Pretty awesome stats. Besides, My dad and I know of a guy with a 69 T-bird I can take the whole drivetrain out for $1500 (US) to rebuild/build-up...hehehe.
Mitch, Did you see the post on the Mach overheating issue under the V8 cost heading? Just an idea. As far as a yellow 2dr XB, I tried the BoB lines with the yellow as main color (gloss black), outside pinstripe as red (satin black), inside stripe as white (gloss black), and the scoops and tail end as dark blue (satin black). It looked kinda cool but weird. The one on the Puretone video is ok, but kinda bland. Ideas?

Bronze,
Saw the cool cooling ideas (ha-ha). Since I put in a 3 row radiator, it's been ok. In the '89 GT w/ a 5.0 I put in a Be Cool aluminum radiator and that keeps the temp way down even in summertime, with A/C running in traffic.
I'm trying to picture the tricolor scheme on the coupe as you described. Sounds kinda like what I was thinking. Got any photoshopped pics?
Whose cars did you find? Howie's exBee and Lawrie's plum nightmare? Have you gotten on the Australian Ford Falcon Club Yahoo group?

No as far as the yahoo group. Phil found a brown XB Fairmont (Dec. 73) with a straight 6/fmx and vinyl top. It has been in the same family its entire life. Son bought it and put 7000 miles on it, then sold it to dad. He's 70ish and wants to sell it now...hopefully to me (Bigarsegrin). I just gotta bite the credit card bullet until I can get it financed through JJ Best. It's a good base car to Max out to previously stated specs. Opinion?

Make sure the mounts are there for a V8. I never looked into the V6 to V8 swap feasibility. Phil is on the Yahoo group. Ask him to get you onto the group maybe, since you're looking to buy.
Get as many of the GT options as you can up front, or you'll be buying and installing later. Dash, GS/GT hood, side flutes, rear valance, etc. You can get the nose, flares and spoilers from a variety of sources, including here in the US. If you put in a fast driveline like you want, think about handling and stopping. Look for a disc brake rear end now... There are several ways to upgrade the handling, so you can wait on that.
Finally, get an honest appraisal of the rust situation. Know what you're getting into, and be prepared. If it needs repair panels, have Phil start locating them now to ship with the car instread of sourcing and shipping later. Problem areas include the rear windscreen, especially all areas underneath, the roof rails, front pillars, the cowl and trunk floor.
Good luck on your project.
