My biggest complaint about the "Fury Road" prequel comics was that it seemed quite out of character for Tom Hardy's Max to be involved in what is essentially a classic muscle car restoration project.

Remember, at the beginning of Fury Road, Max's voice-over monologue informs us he has just one instinct: to survive. And after the war boys capture Max, we learn he is very much a feral creature, a guy who truly puts the "mad" in "Mad Max."

So it's just not plausible somebody this animalistic would put so much effort into carefully re-creating a car he had previously owned.

Because making an almost carbon copy replica of the Interceptor would require not only devoting scarce resources to aesthetics, but also risking life and limb for those same aesthetic concerns.

Feral Max would not do this. He would certainly seek to build or acquire the fastest, most reliable, most crash-worthy car he could, but he wouldn't care much if it were a Falcon with a Concorde nose piece.

Yes but you're missing one important part:

Max wasn't like this when he was building his car. He became completely feral after the events of The Wasteland. Even in Furiosa you can see his car was pretty much completed and in somewhat good condition. That was before The Wasteland.

Who knows what really happened to him in that story but for sure he damn near lost his mind and stopped caring about himself and his vehicle.

Miller penned 'The Wasteland' as part of the development process for 'Fury Road,' but it may not get past the starting line.

A lot of people are picking apart Furiosa's pacing/plot and are confused by the choices made but I'm coming in off two straight weeks of research about the franchise and there's a key thing people need to know to understand what happened. (mini-thread)

As a kid, when I first was introduced to Mad Max, it was the beginning of Road Warrior and I immediately fell in love with the interceptor. The idea of watching Max build his car (and hopefully some bad ass cinematography like that of the game) is just awesome! With Miller pushing 80 now and knowing how long these things to take, idk if this is gonna happen. IMO it started with Max and it needs to end with Max.

Shame Furiosa isn't doing well right now, hoping it changes

I asked this question of you on Twitter, but you did not reply, so I ask again here:

Hold up. Which character in the film do you think was Chumbucket? Is it the guy who gives Furiosa the hot rod with the missing rear wheel?

flightsuit,

Apologies for not seeing your reply on Twitter/X.

Yes, according to several Web articles I have read, Chumbucket from the 2015 video game Mad Max was the mechanic in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga who showed Furiosa the three-wheeled car.
