Lots of great info in this thread and I'm really looking forward to your next video Taipan.

Old man Max would have been amazing and having Mel's Max retire into the Citadel at the end would have been a perfect ending for the character.

A terrific ending, even if the last seconds of "Thunderdome" are surely the definitive way to seal his epic figure forever.

My research is almost complete now, amazing where a few pictures of VIN plates and the Internet can take you. Already planning the next vid which will be about the War Rig. This time it'll be much easier to gather info because I have direct access to people who designed and worked on it. Especially Jacinta Leong who's been nothing but super kind and informative, answering all of my weird questions! Unfortunately there's not a lot of information about the original version of the War Rig except the platform they were going to use but I suppose they never even managed to build it to begin with. I might be wrong though as soon as I get in contact with more people who worked on vehicles in namibia in 2003, new info can always crop up.

How does anyone feels about Fury Road now over 6/7 years later.

I have to admit although I was completely overwhelmed by the film initially, I found myself growing more distant to it over the years.

I find the main problem is: no Mel! That's a high dent into the film re-watchability as the years go by, especially now that we have the first 3 in UHD.

The second problem is, the image is digital, and the whole film is stuffed with VFX, which kills the mood. Someone said the bonus where you can see the shot footage pre-VFX and skies replacement does look how they expected the film to look, and I agree. The bonus has more of the trilogy feel than the film. I also find the digital grading completely atrocious.

My go-to for the film is more the Black & Chrome which thankfully get rid of the garish colors.

However, there's no Mel in the Black & Chrome, and that is still a minus. Mel should have done it. He is Mad Max, period.

After all those years you're still in the No Mel no Max camp? Thats funny.
In my opinion he wouldn't 've worked in a 2015 Fury Road. Even when I look at him today it's difficult for me to see in him the 'old Mel' or Max he once was. I think with Fury Road Miller gave us the best Mad Max he could possibly make. The movie and it's quality speaks for itself.

I have to say I really like the vibrant and oversaturated colours in FR. George Miller always was a trendsetter. With Mad Max he created the postapocalyptic genre and once more with Fury Road he created the look of the future in postapocalyptic movies for years to come.
(a few examples are Blade Runner 2049 and Jack Snyders JL) It's nice to see his influence.

Recently I bought the UHD/4K version of the Road Warrior and noticed the digital correction towards a more vibrant colour like in Fury Road.
The film never looked better!!

If we got Mel to play old Max then Fury Road would've been the last Mad Max film with him anyway, because George Miller finally wanted for Max to stop being tormented by his past and settle in the Citadel. And every other prequel would have a different actor anyway, so the bottomline is - replacing Mel was inevitable.

I still love FR. I have probably seen it 30 times by now. Mel would not have worked in the FR we got but he would have worked in the Thunderdome-esque Fury Road that was originally planned. Maybe if they cut out a lot of Max's action scenes and changed up some of the voices/ghosts he would have worked great.

I weave in an out over the Mel thing. This week I'm fine, and in fact I rewatched Fury Road twice, in UHD and in 3D.

Use levcore on another forum said this: "the story was geared around an older Max and would have arguably made more sense that way. The movie is set 40 years after an apocalyptic breakdown of society, Max used to be a working cop etc but in Fury Road is in his late 30s. Furiosa is the same age more or less but talks about being taken from her tribe as a child. The younger Max makes less sense given the setting of the movie and the history of the character (as presented in Fury Road)".

I'm pretty sure you'll get over this Mel thing. For me Mel's not Mad Max anymore since Beyond Thunderdome

Happy Christmas!
