The little detail I quite enjoyed, which is pretty obvious but that I didn't notice to the third or forth viewing, was how Max is responsible for Splendids death; he wounds her leg and this is why she slips.

Really? I can't recall, did she bandage it and that bandage was involved in her falling somehow? I thought he only just grazed her leg, not enough to affect her use of it at all.johnentwistlespout wrote:The little detail I quite enjoyed, which is pretty obvious but that I didn't notice to the third or forth viewing, was how Max is responsible for Splendids death; he wounds her leg and this is why she slips.
Re: The little details
she slipped in the blood which had run from the graze to the bottom of her foot . Nux even blames max when he says "he saw it , he saw it all , my own blood bag driving the rig that killed her "

Which I guess accounts for the Massive Attack 'Teardrop' embryo shot during Max's nightmare?
Re: The little details
The film walks a fine line between dark punkish comic-book vibe and silly punkish comic-book sensation. I can see the thinking behind the sped up sections, the need to keep the pace very high. When it's done for artistic reasons I can sort of forgive it. But the scene with the tanker sped up just looked like a case of trying to make a big old lumbering tanker look like it was moving fast.Taipan wrote:Same. I didn't like the sped up footage overall. I mean if it's unnoticeable then that's fine but once you overdo it it crosses over into slapstick territory, which I think is the complete opposite of what FR was supposed to be modeled after (the Road Warrior was really dark in tone in many ways with some straight up horror elements too). I think the counterargument is that it's supposed to convey the wackiness of that world but I think the world itself was built crazy enough to do without those kind of enhancements. In fact I think FR would really benefit from not flashing its 'wackiness' or 'madness' every chance it got because it loses its meaning when there is no clear frame of reference.MWFV8 wrote:I thought the bit where the tanker was sped up in Fury Road looked awful. And I'm not convinced it's any way a homage.
Let's have a look at the opening monologue - 'It's hard to know who was more crazy. Me or everyone else". Was that explanation really necessary? Compare it to the B&W version when Max just turns around and starts to be chased by War Boys. You don't have it laid down on the table that this whole world is insane, instead you've got this contrast where you assume Max is the only guy still somewhat reminding you of the reality (i.e. you are him, grounded in now) and all of sudden he gets chased down but this weird band of freaks. The contrast makes it much more powerful.
Next scene - Max getting his hair cut. His cartoonish escape throws me off for the same reasons. No need for sped up footage, the sheer fact he's treated like an organ donor by those weirdos is enough. Plus there's no time to catch all the little details, like the guys that are grinding down his car. I'm going on a tangent here but I hope that maybe some day there will be a regular speed cut of the movie because it highlights the contrast between Max and that whole world he's in. I think that was one of the stronger points of RW too.
Which kinda sucks really when you consider how Spielberg handled the same problem in Duel, with none of the high speed camera vehicles, high frame rate cameras, and cgi enhancements, plus burdened by a tv movie budget, a genuine slow old truck, AND working on his first ever film. https://youtu.be/Za-1E89j6cU?t=3m5s
Considering how much neat CGI was used, it would have been easy to have shown the War Rig smashing through sparing remains of civilisation and flying by rocks.
Plus I feel the War Rig was a bit of a sleeping giant. It didn't need to be fast to be impressive. It just needed to be near unstoppable.
But ultimately, like yourself, I would love to see a slower and darker Fury Road cut. However, I'm not sure the ticket buying public would.

Nice spot! If you pause at the exact moment you can see her slip because of her blood. I won't take a screenshot since its kind of nasty looking.johnentwistlespout wrote:The little detail I quite enjoyed, which is pretty obvious but that I didn't notice to the third or forth viewing, was how Max is responsible for Splendids death; he wounds her leg and this is why she slips.

If it hadn't been for The Ace, Furiosa and the wives would have probably been captured. It is The Ace falling off the war rig (after he is punched in the face by Furiosa) and puncturing Nux's front right tire that requires Max to be moved to the back for counterweight, which is of course when he escapes and the rest is history.
Re: The little details
This one here is absolutely mental and shows the insane little things that George did to piece everything together.
I saw this photo on Facebook, notice the ammo and tube length on the Bullet Farm Imperator. When Max loots the Peacemaker and their bodies he takes that Imperator's stuff for himself. Which he then uses to give blood to Furiosa. I always assumed he or one of the wives kept the tube when Nux cuts the chain and never thought more about it.

Maybe it's just me but, when I first saw the elevator mechanism at the Citadel, it reminded me of a double overhead cam arrangement. But it's most likely that arrangement for practical reasons I guess.
