speaking to the cast, they've told me much of it was filmed, but ended up on the cutting room (kitchen) floor. Maybe one day it will be found and released as a directors cut. Maybe...

the director's cut is the cut we know. If Miller didn't put more scenes in the movie, if so many things were dumped, there was a reason. After it could be awesome to see those scenes, but integrated in the movie, I don't think so...

I think the main reason they were dumped was time. It was his first movie, and to met the 1.5hr that movies of the time ran to, bits were left out. You can really see it in the opening chase. While a great chase, bits are missing that you notice after a few views.

No, I don't think so, the main reason many of the footage stayed ended in the garbage bin was technical problems (the scenes were not good) or narrative problems (scenes without a begining or an ending). For exemple I think, I don't know but I think, that the birthday cake party was thrown out because it was the only scene with Calamine, and it doesn't make any sense to see her in the movie only in that scene. Most of the footage was thrown out because of this kind of issues...

The reason for the cuts were that they RAN OUT OF MONEY.
Not all of the scenes were filmed so there was going to be continuity issues.
MM was to be 2hrs at the cinemas but ended up much shorter.

As for what we saw is the only footage saved, not entirely true.

In 2008 at Little River some nice clips were shown for all to see.
This included an extended version of the bikers crash on the bridge.
It was only 10secs or so longer, but again proves the footage is there.
We are 100% snafu....

I know the 10 seconds of the bike scene of the bridge, it's nice for a "extended version" out of the dvd, but if they edited it like this, it's because it was more efficient like this. Two different things : when you edit a scene, you put some images, some footage in the bin. It's obvious. Second thing, you dump entire scene, because it doesn't work in the movie (who wanted to see max and jesse to search in Sprog's poo to find a bullet ?) or because for some technical or narrative problem you cannot use them...
If so many scenes were dumped, it's of course because they ran out of money, but not only (lack of organisation, narrative issues with the screenplay etc etc...) Of course at the end we can say "it's because there was not enough money", because you can solve so many things with the money... But you don't make a movie with using ALL your rushes...

also ask yourself, would showing Goose had a girlfriend add to the main story? How? By showing he cheated on her with the singer? It ended up better the the story (Max's rage) that that he was the larrikin happy go lucky fella who was destroyed by the gang.

The cake shoved into Grants ass, whilst probably funny (and Grant says he almost came off the bike doing that stunt and picking icing out of his ass for ages) didn't really add to the over all story.

I'd still like to see the additional footage, but I suspect most of it has been lost....like tears in rain

I know about Goose's girlfriend... I know why most of the stuff of the screenplay is not in the movie, it's pretty obvious. If there's a question, it's if they shot a scene with Calamine, who's that actress ?! Did they shot it with an actress playing Calamine, or did they shot it with an actress supposed to play a friend of Jesse...
What you think ?

Both Joanne Samuel and Grant page told me that the scene was shot with someone playing the Calamine character. Unless Mr Miller says differently, I believe them.

It's not a question of believing them or not...
Joane Samuel couldn't remember nothing, she just remember that scene was shot. Grant Page doesn't told me really more than what we can find in his book...
They said to you that she was "Calamine" for sure ? Of course I know she's Calamine in the screenplay, but my concern is this : The only guy who could tell me who was the actress (and I asked this question to a lot of people) is the gaffer, Lindsay Foote. And he told me she was a mannequin, she was the same girl we see in the triker. Doesn't make any sense no ? If you have more info, I'm interested...
