I can understand why some might not be too happy about the condition the car is in but the positive is at least it's still around. It could have easily been crushed at the scrap yard instead of being 'restored' and winding up in Florida.

One of my other favourite movies is Vanishing Point (from 1971) with Barry Newman driving a white 1970 Dodge Challenger from Colorado to San Francisco. Five Challengers were used for the movie but there's no record of what happened to the cars after the movie was finished filming. Kind of ironic that the cars just vanished.

Anyway, it was cool to see the car.

I thought the challengers had to be returned to Dodge as a condition of using them before their official launch. they were either scrapped or ended up at dealers (as 'new' cars? ) They weren't allowed to destroy one for the end scene, so substituted a camaro for the explosion.

There have been theories as to what was supposed to happen to the five Challengers but none have been confirmed. According to a magazine article from 1985, four of the five (four were 440-4 barrel 4-speeds and one was a 383-4 barrel automatic) weren't in running condition once filming finished. When you watch the movie it's pretty obvious they beat the cars pretty hard.

According to someone on moparts, in the 80s there was a car trader ad for the 383 car in California but no picture of the ad or anyone else confirming they saw the ad too.

I spent about an hour alone with the car. It was very quiet and surreal. The carousel light seemed haunting. Cameras were everywhere. Someone was watching. I investigated everything I could. The condition was tired. More bondo than was expected. Cracks were present on many panels. Still some red dirt inside. I wondered it was from the hallowed ground of its native land.

i wonder what it would take to talk with the manager of the museum for a full walk around of the car for photos. i live in florida, but taking a trip down to miami is expensive.

hell, after the first couple of times i went there i learned i never wanted to go back; so it'd literally be just so i can see this car.

Also, it costs $40.00 to get into the museum. Kinda stiff I thought.

Would love to schedule a time to meet other fans there. The owner had a James Bond event once.

Anyone want to plan a meet to visit the original car?

HA! you're totally right. however, it's expensive; but it also feels like i cant even afford the time to go down there.

on top of everything - miami is a HUGE shit hole.

When did it make it to Fla?

I might have made it to see it back 2 years ago. My parents lived in Jacksonville Florida but have since moved to central Georgia. No chance I'll make it now. Still cool to know it's in the USA though and still around.
